Guinness is a widely known and celebrated beer and regardless of how much better the craft beer crowd says other stouts taste, Guinness is still and will always be an iconic brand. With St. Patrick’s Day only a short time away, Guinness is on the rise and besides kicking back with a pint of the famous dry stout, Guinness fans everywhere are encouraged to sport their best foam mustache in a show of solidarity and community.
Everyone who drinks Guinness stout knows that it is common to find a tan- colored band of foamy goodness above the upper lip after each sip. Guinness is asking fans to snap pictures of themselves and their ‘stache, then share on social media. The mustache can be the type that only Guinness can produce, but it is also fine to take pictures of actual mustaches or even those that are hand- drawn above the lip. With each photo share, Guinness is asking that you tag the picture with @GuinnessUS and #StacheForCharity. For each photo tagged in this manner, Guinness has pledged to donate $1 to the Guinness Gives Back Fund, a charity that gives money to non- profit organizations in local communities. Guinness will tally the dollars and will give up to $100,000 to the cause.
Guinness Brand Director Emma Giles says the idea is to foster a strong sense of community and bring people together during a time when many Americans are feeling more isolated and shunned.
“Let’s face it, now’s as good a time as any to raise a pint,” said Giles. “We need to reconnect with what can bring us together as family, friends, coworkers, Americans, and most basically, human beings. St. Patrick’s Day is almost here and few, if any, holidays are as unifying or as celebratory.”
As part of the promotional effort, Guinness will show the ‘Stache symbol next to the Guinness brand at displays in bars and restaurants and will release digital content showing people from different backgrounds proudly displaying their own ‘stache. Giles stresses that the ‘stache is intended to bring people together, to show that we are one.
“There’s just something about the Guinness ‘Stache that makes you crack a smile,” Giles said. “What better symbol this time of year for unity, communion and giving back?”
Guinness will continue to count pictures for charitable purposes through March 19, 2017. There is only a short time, so grab yourself a Guinness, knock one back, and take a quick picture of your best Guinness ‘stache for all the world to see.
