California based 21st Amendment Brewery is set to release its winter seasonal brew, a beer that offers a different angle on a cold weather beverage. The new beer is called Sneak Attack and it features ingredients and flavors more common to the beers of summer, hence the name.
21st Amendment co- founder Shaun O’Sullivan says Sneak Attack, a Belgian style Saison, sets itself apart in a positive way by offering a surprise alternative to the typical winter seasonal.
“While this is the time of year when brewers are typically introducing strong, heavy beers, we wanted to brew up a bit of a surprising alternative that essentially says, ‘In your face, winter!’”, O’Sullivan said. “This year we experimented with a new Belgian yeast and had some fun with the subtle spicing to create a true farmhouse-style ale.”
Sneak Attack is brewed using pilsner malt, Belgian Light Candi Sugar, and Saison yeast to produce a beer with aromas such as peppery spice, cardamom, lemon, and grass. The beer’s aroma and flavor speak summer and co- founder Nico Freccia says Sneak Attack is a cool beer all- around, not just because of its refreshing qualities, but also due to its packaging.
“This is one of my favorite package designs that we’ve done. George Washington, shirtless with a beer gut, leading a ragtag band of guys in brightly striped swim shorts across the river in a snowstorm. How cool is that?”, says Freccia. “And the beer pairs equally well with the rich and warming foods of winter as it does with pizza and wings at game time. But don’t let its tame exterior fool you: At 6.2% ABV and 38 IBUs, Sneak Attack packs some punches of its own.”
Sneak Attack Saison is available starting right now and continuing through March. The beer is offered in six packs and on draft throughout 21st Amendment’s 25 state distribution territory while supplies last.
