Alamo Drafthouse, the Austin- based entertainment complex that strives to bring us the best movies and beer in a single stop, has announced another collaboration beer, this time to celebrate the release of the new movie, Star Trek Beyond. The new brew is called Beyond IPA, a collaboration beer with Odell Brewing that features a big, bold taste as far out as the movie it commemorates. Alamo Director of National Beer Promotions John Gross is excited to be working once again with Odell Brewing and to present the craft beer public with a brew of cosmic proportions.
“It’s a pleasure to have our second collaboration with Odell available to Alamo guests at JUST the right time: when temperatures are rocketing upwards and a cool, dark theater and cold beer are vital life support,” says Gross. “We banded together with our own Alamo beer enthusiasts from both Austin and Denver to help plan and brew the final product with our pals at Odell, a real treat. The result is a great big, floral, double IPA that effortlessly pushes the style out of the stratosphere.”
Alamo and Odell fans might recall that the two big wigs of film and beer have, indeed, collaborated in the past. The other time these two highly respected reps of entertainment and drink crossed paths was in 2015 when they collaborated on French {Hop} Connection, a beer that celebrated the release of Alamo Drafthouse Films’ THE CONNECTION. This year’s Beyond IPA keeps the hopped- up theme going strong with the addition of Comet hops, a hard to find hop variety with a most appropriate name. Brendan McGivney, Odell’s Director of Brewing Operations, says this hop variety is perfect for a Star Trek themed special release brew.
“We were blown away by the intense grapefruit zest and sticky marijuana aromas while rubbing hop cones in the field,” says McGivney. “We then decided to contract for future production, and now we have found the perfect beer to allow the hop to blast off. We’re excited to share ‘Beyond IPA,’ a collaboration that showcases unique, world-class hops and both Odell Brewing and Alamo Drafthouse’s commitment to push beyond boundaries.”
Beyond IPA is available right now at Alamo Drafthouse locations in Colorado, Texas, Missouri, and Nebraska. In celebration of the partnership with Odell Brewing, these Alamo locations will feature an Odell tap takeover complete with Odell’s flagship beers and other Odell options.
