Colossal, the new film starring Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis, is arriving at theaters this month and our friends at Alamo Drafthouse are ready to celebrate with a new collaboration brew called Seoul Crusher, a saison beer.
Alamo Drafthouse has collaborated with several different breweries over the past few years and this time, the combination bar/movie theater/restaurant is teaming up with a brewery not too far from its Austin, Texas headquarters. The brewery is Real Ale and the beer will be available only for a limited time.
Alamo Drafthouse Director of National Beer Promotions, John Gross, says the beer was inspired by the movie and each is enhanced by the other.
“COLOSSAL is a knock-out film and our friends at Real Ale have crafted an equally knock-out beer,” says Gross. “Just like the film, ‘Seoul Crusher’ will surprise and delight audiences of all kinds, from casual beer drinkers to hardcore brew heads.”
Real Ale head brewer Schmitty Schmitterson says the beer is like no other- a saison in style, but with a taste and character all its own.
“‘Seoul Crusher’ is a traditional saison with a Korean twist,” explains Schmitterson. “Brewed with pilsner malt and flaked rice, the beer pours a straw color, with a mouthfeel that is light bodied and crisp in the finish. Colossal helpings of fresh ginger and lemon peel add additional layers of complexity to an already flavor-intense style rife with notes of herbal citrus and a spicy dryness.”
Seoul Crusher will be available only on draft and only at Alamo Drafthouse locations in select Texas cities. Only 60 barrels were brewed and once depleted, the beer will likely not be seen nor tasted again. These are good reasons to schedule a visit to your nearest Texas Alamo Drafthouse for a unique beer and great movie while time permits.
