San Diego’s AleSmith Brewing is one of the most celebrated in the nation. It’s a brewery known for its beer and for its strong sense of community and today the company is giving back with the announcement of a new beer, Hope Hazy IPA, a beer brewed to help frontline workers cope with the COVID-19 crisis.
This new beer is brewed in conjunction with Anvil of Hope, a non- profit that was created by AleSmith Brewing founders Peter and Vicky Zien. Through this newly formed nonprofit, Peter and Vicky can fulfill their mission- one that goes far beyond serving great beer. It is all about improving the San Diego community and its people by offering assistance to low income residents, at- risk youth, and others in need of help.
Peter Zien says the new beer fulfills Anvil of Hope’s goals by striving to offer help where help is needed during the COVID-19 crisis.
“While many breweries are doing their best to manage during this global pandemic, we believe it is our duty to give back to members of the community who are ‘giving it their all’ during these trying times,” says Zien. “It makes perfect sense for us to do what we do best, and through that, be able to lend a hand to others across the county.”
Proceeds from sales of Hope Hazy IPA will go to organizations that share Anvil of Hope’s vision, with a special emphasis on assisting frontline workers and their families. The new beer is a fine example of the hazy IPA style, with a nose of pineapple, citrus, and tropical fruits and a smooth, juicy body/flavor. The beer contains 7.5 percent alcohol by volume and a relatively low bitterness of 15 IBU.
AleSmith Hope Hazy IPA will hit the store shelves starting in July. Look for it in places where AleSmith beer is currently sold.
