Black is Beautiful is a nationwide/worldwide initiative launched by Weathered Souls Brewing in San Antonio, Texas. The goal is ambitious, yet simple enough: Encourage breweries from coast to coast to brew and distribute a Black is Beautiful beer of their own, then donate the proceeds to nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to racial justice.
Maine’s Allagash Brewing, like many of America’s craft breweries, is always ready to lend a hand in support of community efforts and starting this week, Allagash is releasing a Black is Beautiful beer of its own. This beer is a robust and tasty imperial stout and it will be available at Allagash Brewing and at retailers across the state of Maine.
Allagash Brewing has selected these two important nonprofit organizations as the recipients of its Black is Beautiful proceeds:
Indigo Arts Alliance builds global connections by bringing together Black and Brown artists from diverse backgrounds to engage in their creative process with an opportunity to serve as both mentors and mentees. An integral aspect of the Indigo vision is to provide Maine-based artists of African descent access to a broader range of practicing artists of color from around the world.
Maine Inside Out is a community of artists and visionaries with lived experience of incarceration and structural racism and their allies. They build, practice, and share models for community change to build a world where everyone matters and belongs.
Black is Beautiful was launched only a few months ago, but participation has been widespread with nearly 1,200 breweries in the United States and in 22 different countries brewing and distributing their version of the beer. Allagash Black is Beautiful will be available beginning Friday, November 13. It’s not likely to last, so grab a four pack of this special beer when you get the chance and show your support for racial justice.
