Portland’s BridgePort Brewing Company, the oldest craft brewery in the state of Oregon, now has a new beer in its year- round lineup. The new brew is Bridgeport Cream Ale and it has already been released to stores, taverns, and restaurants in Oregon and surrounding areas, with greater distribution to all of Bridgeport’s present destinations starting on June 1, 2016. Bridgeport Brewing’s brewmaster Jeff Edgerton says the company wanted to expand the year- round offerings with a lighter brew and Bridgeport Cream Ale was selected to fulfill goal.
“We’ve been looking to introduce another lighter beer to the BridgePort roster for awhile now. After some testing, our unique take on a traditional Cream Ale was the perfect style to introduce,” states Edgerton. “In the recipe, we used three hop varietals including Nugget and Meridian. We then used Yakima Valley Mosaic hops, added in the hopjack to create notes of tropical fruit and sweet grape. Locally, this beer has been a big hit with our fans and we’re excited to see what everyone else thinks as well.”
Bridgeport Cream Ale is brewed using Great Western 2-row Pale Ale malt along with generous amounts of malted wheat and flaked oats, which leads to a beer with a pale gold hue. The final product weighs in at 4.8% alcohol by volume, making it a perfect session beer. The bitterness level is low and the flavor finishes with slightly sweet fruit notes. The mouthfeel is creamy, thanks to the added specialty malt, Carafoam.
BridgePort Brewing originally released Cream Ale in February, 2016 as a test brew and offered it exclusively at the Portland-based BrewPub and select locations in Oregon. The local response was extremely positive, convincing the company to move forward and add this beer to the regular lineup. Look for BridgePort Cream Ale in 6-packs, 22 oz. bomber bottles, and on draft where BridgePort Brewing is presently sold.
