When I travel, I like to seek out new places for beer, as everyone already knows, but I also feel the same way about food. I have no interest in visiting chain restaurants for the obvious reason: I can get food from the same chain restaurant near my house, so why would I visit a chain while on vacation? I prefer local restaurants and I’m partial to those that feature a unique theme, rooftop accompaniments, and other things that make them stand out in the crowd. And one restaurant that satisfies all of these desires and more is Brit’s Pub, a British- themed pub and eatery in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Restaurant, Bar, and More
Brit’s Pub is all about Britain, with authentic food, drink, and atmosphere that give it the look and feel of an authentic English pub. The atmosphere is easily the establishment’s strongest selling point and it’s worth a visit for that reason alone. The pub contains three levels, with a large, second level rooftop lawn used for lawn bowling and other events. Guests can seat themselves at one of the tables on this level, or climb up one more level for even better views.
On the inside of Brit’s Pub, one will find several of the usual hallmarks that define this type of establishment, like British memorabilia, pictures of famous British people, etc. Many of the food items, likewise, are named after some of Britain’s more famous individuals.

Food and Drink
For your dining pleasure, Brit’s Pub divides its menu into these categories:
- Appetizers
- Soups & Salads
- Fish & Chips
- Pub Pies and Favorites
- Sandwiches & Burgers
- Main Plates
- Sundries
- Afters (Desserts)
- For the Kid’s
- Chippies
Menu items like Brit’s Famous Scotch Eggs, Fish & Chips, Sir Winston’s Cheese Toasty, Brit’s Steak Sandwich, and Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding are popular favorites and it would be difficult to go wrong with any of them. I struggled to decide what to eat when I visited, but finally decided that, given my meat-and-potatoes mood at the moment, I would order Banger’s and Mash, a meal consisting of Banger sausages, mashed potatoes, homemade beef gravy with sautéed onions, and a side of peas. It was purely divine and matched up perfectly with one of the British beers on tap.
Beer with Your Meal
Speaking of the beer, Brit’s Pub centers its attention on British and other European beers, such as Fuller’s ESB, Boddingtons, New Castle, Old Speckled Hen, Stella Artois, and other traditional favorites. But the beer isn’t limited to Europe and craft beer fans will be happy to see several local options from the likes of Surly Brewing, Fulton Brewing, and Summit plus a handful of other craft and semi- craft options from the likes of Deschutes Brewing, Blue Moon, and others. The beer menu isn’t gigantic, but it is more than sufficient with a brew to satisfy most anyone’s taste preferences. And they serve large, 20 ounce Imperial pints for those times when an ordinary pint simply won’t do.

Visit Minneapolis for Brit’s Pub
Brit’s Pub is one of the coolest restaurants/taverns in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area and one the best (and largest!) British themed pubs I have ever visited. The British look and feel, the excellent food and beer, and the rooftop accompaniments place this pub/restaurant in a class by itself and it’s not difficult to understand why visitors and locals rank this among the best eateries in the Minneapolis area.
The atmosphere is arguably the greatest reason to visit Brit’s Pub. The moment you walk through the main entrance, you immediately like what you see. With the abundance of wood, comfortable seating, flags of different nations, British celebrity photos on the walls, etc., you feel like you’ve crossed the Atlantic and walked into an authentic British pub. Then, you walk upstairs and gaze upon the large, outdoor rooftop deck with two levels and the green grass that comprises the lawn bowling field and, well, you gain an even greater respect for the size and entertainment value of this downtown Minneapolis establishment.
Next to the atmosphere, Brit’s Pub proved to me that they know a thing or two about food and drink. I read rave reviews about several menu items and wish I could have tried them all, but I was nonetheless more than satisfied with my Banger’s and Mash meal. Meaty with real potatoes and house- made gravy, it was truly the bomb and better than similar meals I have had at other British pubs.
I love themed restaurants and taverns. With many British pubs, the management is content to place a British flag on the wall, add a tap for Bass Ale, serve a couple varieties of Fish and Chips, and consider the pub authentic. Brit’s Pub takes the experience to new levels- three to be exact- with a lively atmosphere and one of the largest rooftop decks I’ve ever seen. Pay a visit when you’re in town, and get a taste for the British Isles, right here in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
