Everywhere you look, beer festivals appear. We have the longstanding beer celebrations such as the Great American Beer Festival, Oregon Brewers Fest, and other favorites but with the craft beer boom in full and unstoppable swing, new festivals are debuting at a rapid pace, setting the stage for tomorrows favorites. One festival about to kick off for the very first time is the Buckeye Brewfest, coming toAkron, Ohio on Sunday, August 14, 2016.
Buckeye Brewfest is marking its debut and to add to the fun- and compatibility- it will be operated as part of the National Hamburger Festival at Lock 3 Park. No beverage compliments a great burger quite like a great craft beer so combining the two events into one is the perfect way to enjoy two of life’s greatest complimentary pleasures. The event will showcase beers from dozens of Ohio breweries with beer offered in 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz. serving size options.
Craft beer fans are already aware of the rising tide of craft breweries in Ohio so it’s not surprising that a new craft beer- centered festival would make its debut.
“Ohio is home to more than 170 craft breweries and ranks fourth in craft beer production nationwide,” said Drew Cerza, the festival organizer. “So the decision to create a beer-centered event was an easy one.”
The Buckeye Brewfest admission will be included in the ticket price for the National Hamburger Festival, so there is no need to worry about purchasing a separate admission ticket. Here is a list of participating Ohio breweries:
Joining these Ohio- based craft breweries and rounding out the selections will be such notable brands/offerings as Leinenkugel’s Big Eddy Royal Nektar Shiner Beer’s Wicked Ram IPA and Prickly Pear, Fireman’s Brew Blonde, Brunette and Redhead, and select beers from Horny Goat Brewing Company
Beer festivals are often educational and the Buckeye Beerfest is no different. Representatives from participating breweries will be on- site, ready to share facts about their beers, offer tips on food pairings, and provide background information on their breweries. Oh, and like any beer festival, there will be live music, including Akron-based live blues and jazz bands Gaetano’s Underworld Blues Band (12pm) and The Stingers(3pm). Beer focused games and activities will round- out the afternoon of entertainment.
The National Hamburger Festival is now in its 11the year and it often draws around 20,000 visitors each summer. Presented by the City of Akron, the burger festival supports Akron Children’s Hospital and draws roughly 20,000 visitors each year. With the addition of the Buckeye Brewfest, this already popular and charitable event is bound to become that much more enjoyable and memorable. It’s going to be a fun weekend of food and beer so mark your calendars and make your way to Akron this August.
