In the United States of America, few places can match the natural beauty of California. Where else can you find scorching deserts, dormant volcanoes, giant trees, massive waterfalls, and majestic mountains, all in a single state? California truly has it all but its leadership goes far beyond the bounties of nature. California is also a bastion for craft beer and the coastal city of Carlsbad is set to expand its craft beer credentials in 2017 with more places for beer and food plus two new breweries.
Culinary Allurements
New to the Carlsbad scene in 2017 are two dining/drinking establishments that promise to deliver an extra dose of charm to accompany the select food and drink. The two new eateries are:
Park 101 – Set to open in February, 2017, Park 101 is an 8000 square foot, multi- level restaurant and lounge that will open its doors in Carlsbad Village. This combination indoor/outdoor venue will feature up to 32 local draft beers, regional wines, barbecued foods, and more. Those who enjoy a view with their beer and food will greatly appreciate the Park 101 Tamarack View Deck- a rooftop lounge where you can cozy up to the fire, snack on gourmet foods, and soak up the local scenery.
North 40 – Those looking for a rural experience in the city will want to head to North 40, scheduled to open in the spring. This is an Urban Farm covering 43 acres and it will feature food, beverage, and floral production. Encompassing 110,000 square feet, the facilities in North 40 will bring together the best of an urban and farm environment into a single space and its farm to table concept is sure to be a hit with locals and tourists alike. Beer lovers will want to add North 40 to their travel itinerary because it will house a select group of craft breweries and local wineries with AleSmith, Iron Fist Brewing Company and Mother Earth Brew Co slated as some of the potential tenants.
Bring on the Brew
Carlsbad is presently home to several breweries, including Arcana Brewing, Culver Beer Company, Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Guadalupe Brewery, On-The-Tracks Brewery, Pizza Port and Port Brewing Company . On December 5, 2016, Carlsbad welcomed Burgeon Beer to the fold, bringing its total to seven. In 2017, the list will expand once again as Rouleur Brewing Co., and Wiseguy Brewing Co. enter the craft beer scene.
Plan Your Beercation
Carlsbad, California is more than just a northerly suburb of San Diego. This ocean front community has developed a personality all its own and continues to grow and innovate. Great Beer Now was invited on a beer tour of Carlsbad in November, 2016 and I had the pleasure of paying a visit to multiple brewing operations, many of which produced beers of distinction. The attractiveness of the local area is apparent and it is easy to see why so many people rate the southern California coast among the best places in the world to visit and to live.
Carlsbad’s beer scene continues to mature and improve. The addition of Park 101, North 40, Rouleur Brewing, and Wise Guy Brewing in 2017 is only the beginning of what is likely to be a year of continued craft beer growth and beer tourism outreach. There will likely be even more additions to the brewery and restaurant count as 2017 progresses, so be sure to stay tuned to Great Beer Now for more information as it becomes available.
California is a top vacation spot for countless reasons and Carlsbad is certainly a place worth checking out for great beer, delicious eats, and unforgettable scenery. To learn more about this burgeoning tourist destination, go to Visitcarsbad.com and book your beercation today!
