Breweries seem to be opening up everywhere, sometimes in the least likely of places. One such American brewery is notable for its lack of a fixed location- it travels over the water, brewing beer over a distance that spans thousands of miles. This mobile brewery of sorts is Carnival Vista’s RedFrog Pub & Brewery, the first brewery aboard a North American-based cruise ship.
RedFrog Pub and Brewery is a special partnership formed between Carnival Cruise and Miami Florida’s Concrete Beach Brewery and it has been around since December, 2016. The sea bound brewery brews and serves three beers on the ship: ThirstyFrog Port Hoppin’ IPA, ThirstyFrog Caribbean Wheat, and FriskyFrog Java Stout. To help celebrate American Craft Beer Week, RedFrog Pub and Brewery has a new beer, just tapped for the first time this past weekend. The beer is Miami Guava Wheat, a beer that reflects the tastes of the tropics. Carnival Vista Brewmaster Colin Presby says the beer was inspired by Caribbean destinations and the celebration of craft beer in the United States.
“Since Carnival Vista began sailing from Miami, I’ve become fascinated by tropical fruit and Cuban cuisine so I’m beyond thrilled to create this new Miami Guava Wheat in honor of American Craft Beer Week for our guests to enjoy,” Presby said.
Freshly brewed beer is only one of several unique food and beverage options onboard Carnival Vista. For lovers of spirits, Carnival offers its cocktail pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar. And for those who crave specific types of food, Carnival Vista brings you the New England-inspired Seafood Shack; the JiJi Asian Kitchen; Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse; and Cucina del Capitano, an Italian eatery perfect for the family.
Carnival Vista presently offers six and eight- day cruises from the Miami, Florida port. Starting in the fall of 2018, the ship will move to the port at Galveston, Texas, bringing its floating brewery and other top features to the Gulf of Mexico.
RedFrog Pub and Brewery is the first brewery at sea and yet another reason to consider adding Carnival Cruise to your upcoming vacation plans. Here at Great Beer Now, we travel frequently and are always searching for beer- related adventures. The idea of a brewery on a cruise ship is tremendously appealing and we can’t wait for the arrival of Carnival Vista in Galveston next year, where it will be less than an hour away from Great Beer Now headquarters. A future cruise on this ship is highly probable for Great Beer Now and family, so stay tuned.
