Craft beer fans anticipate fall for the Oktoberfest season and accommodating Oktoberfest beer. But pumpkin beers are still a significant part of the seasonal beer offerings and one of the best pumpkin beers hits the store shelves today. That beer is none other than Pumpkinator, an Imperial pumpkin stout brewed by Houston’s Saint Arnold Brewing.
Pumpkinator isn’t like other pumpkin beers. Cast aside your preconceived notions and how you’re growing tired of pumpkin beers and consider that Pumpkinator is brewed using 1,500 pounds of pumpkin yet doesn’t overwhelm the palate with pumpkin flavor thanks to the assorted spices and other ingredients added to the brew. Saint Arnold Brewer Stephen Rawlings agrees that these ingredients and the brewing process help make this pumpkin beer better than others.
“Even though we use a lot of pumpkin in the Pumpkinator recipe, the pumpkin itself is a subtle flavor compared to everything else going on the beer,” said Rawlings. “The amazing aroma mostly comes from the pumpkin pie spice we add, which includes everything you would expect, such as cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. We add a little during the brew day and then we dry spice after fermentation about a month before filtering, which creates that great pumpkin pie aroma.”
Pumpkinator is one of our favorite fall seasonal beers here at Great Beer Now and it rates among the best in its class. Its dark, ruby accented hue keeps it mysterious while the combination of pale two- row, caramel and black malts plus Cascade and Liberty hops with real pumpkin and assorted spices make this beer as much a dessert as an annual Halloween treat. Here are a few Pumpkinator Specifications:
Original Gravity: 1.094
Bitterness: 34 IBUs
Alcohol Content: 11 percent by volume
The craft beer community and critics alike love what Pumpkinator brings to the fall seasonal table. The beer won a World Beer Cup Silver Medal and continues to thrill fans with its spicy, full- bodied goodness. It will be available starting October 17, 2016 both on draft and in 22 ounce bomber bottles throughout Texas and Louisiana. Supplies are limited, so grab a bottle or draft serving while you can.
