April 7, 1933 is an important day to beer lovers everywhere. No, it has nothing to do with President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s entry into World War II or the passing of his New Deal, but it is tied to FDR in another way. It was on this date that, with Roosevelt’s urging, beer became legal once more, following the passing of the Cullen- Harrison Act, ending 13 years of prohibition. It still marks a day of celebration in the United States as beer fans everyone pop open a bottle and toast to their beer- drinking freedom.

National Beer Day is now celebrated each year on this date and it’s usually accompanied by more than just beer. It’s also common on this day to discover beer trivia and related facts about American law, alcoholic beverages, etc., and one company that specializes in official research is TiVo. This year, TiVo Research and Analytics compiled a study of beer drinking habits among those who watch late night television programming. Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and others have legions of fans, many of whom like to relax with a cold brew while they watch their favorite late night television host chat with special guests and offer up humorous one- liners.
The results of the study show that, by and large, late night television viewers tend to wrap up their day with less expensive, adjunct- laden beers from America’s larger brewing operations like Anheuser- Busch InBev, Coors, and others.
