Coors Light is a beer born in the American West and it continues to enjoy legions of fans who partake in its lighter, less filling taste as they enjoy a ballgame or social gathering. Coors products were once available only in a few states, but as demand continued to increase, the Adolph Coors Company continued to spread its influence and today it is available in all 50 U.S. states as well as in many foreign countries.
Coors Light is, as its name suggests, a light beer and it pours from a bottle or can to a perfectly clear brew with almost no head formation. Its nose includes some faint hints of fruit and an unusual, chemical- like scent that is difficult to put one’s finger on. Based on appearance alone, the first impression with Coors Light is not very positive. It looks like a beer that is going to be excessively light with minimal taste.
Does Coors Light get better as you continue through the tasting experience? I’m sorry to report that it does not. The flavor of Coors Light is exactly the way its appearance suggests: Light, limp, and nearly tasteless. It is lightly grainy and also quite sweet. There is a slight hint of hops in the finish, but it is so faint that it is practically unnoticeable. There is also a metallic character to this beer that is present even when served from a bottle or tap.
Coors Light’s avertisements refer to it as the Silver Bullet and it has racked up plenty of fans over the years. The reasons for the popularity of Coors Light are primarily its lighter taste, easy drinkability, and lower calories. I will be the first to agree that Coors Light does, indeed, finish smooth and doesn’t fill you up, but the reason for these characteristics is basically the lack of character and with a body this watery, it is difficult not to finish clean and smooth. It adds up to a beer that, while popular in terms of sales and availability, is too lame and too weak to take seriously- even for a light beer.
Rating: 2 cheers out of 10
