Earth Day is a time to commemorate the planet on which we live and a time to promote conservation of natural resources. This year, as part of an ongoing partnership, California’s Coronado Brewing has announced an Earth Day event of its own: a joint beach cleanup effort with Surfrider Foundation, scheduled to take place at the Ocean Beach Pier on Saturday, April 21, at 9 a.m.
Coronado Brewing first partnered with Surfrider Foundation last year when it released the collaboration beer, CoastWise Session IPA. Surfrider Foundation is one of the leading coastal protection conservation organizations and Coronado Brewing dedicates a portion of CoastWise beer to support Surfrider’s mission. The beach cleanup effort on April 21 is a continuation of this ongoing partnership and Coronado Brewing CEO Brandon Richards says the relationship is one that benefits everyone in southern California.
“Our company is very proud of its coastal roots, and we’ve continually embraced and celebrated the coastal lifestyle since our founding 21 years ago on Coronado Island,” said Richards. “Our ongoing partnership with the Surfrider Foundation allows us to make a direct, positive impact on the ocean and coastlines that are a fundamental part of the lifestyle we enjoy and celebrate. We hope CoastWise inspires people to get out and enjoy our beaches, while simultaneously supporting their protection.”
CoastWise Session IPA is a refreshing and highly drinkable example of the IPA style. Brewed with Mosaic hops, the beer features flavors such as citrus and tropical fruit, with a dry, bitter finish. The beer contains just 5 percent alcohol by volume and 45 IBU, making it an excellent IPA choice for summer drinking.
Coronado Brewing and Surfrider invite the public to join in the cleanup effort at 9 a.m. There will be some supplies provided, but they ask that everyone bring along reusable gloves, bags, buckets, and their own reusable water bottles in order to reduce waste. It’s an excellent way to get involved and beautify the coastal California region, so do your part and head to Ocean Beach Pier on April 21!
