Dallas- based Deep Ellum Brewing is bringing back a beer certain to thrill the barrel- aged crowd.
Barrel Crusher Barrel- Aged Double Rye India Pale Ale, a fan favorite, is now back for another run. The beer is aged in whiskey and rye barrels for up to three years and its flavor profile has been described as one of maple, stone fruit, spice, and whiskey. The beer is currently available in the Dallas taproom but it will soon get distributed throughout the state of Texas.
Barrel Crusher is a big beer by any measure. It contains 13 percent alcohol by volume and over 100 IBU’s of hoppy bitterness. The beer is brewed using Magnum, Summit, Liberty, and Simcoe hops along with Vienna, Honey, and Pale Malts with added rye. The three years of aging in whiskey barrels adds even more complexity to an already fascinating concoction.
Deep Ellum Production Manager Kyle Wilborn says the 2019 Barrel Crusher is certain to be a crowd pleaser, both for its complex nature and its surprising smoothness.
“Aged in a combination of new oak and whiskey barrels, the 2019 batch of Barrel Crusher is one of the most anticipated DEBC brews for staff and fans alike,” said Wilborn. “The rich flavor of new oak barrels combined with the punch of whiskey barrels give this IPA a complexity and smoothness that is rare in a 13% ABV beer. Balanced out with a massive dose of resinous hops, Barrel Crusher is sure to be a crowd pleaser for Texas IPA lovers,” Wilborn added.
Barrel Crusher will be available on draft and in 22 oz. bottles. Look for this incredible brew in places where Deep Ellum beer is presently sold or if you live in the Dallas area, make your way to the Deep Ellum taproom and grab a serving straight from the source. Barrel Crusher 2019 won’t last long so be sure to get some of this limited release beer before it sells out.
