Illinois- based Destihl Brewery is never one to shy away from innovation and its latest collaboration combines brewing expertise with the love of music to produce a product that celebrates both.
The newest product is Pink Moonlight Peach Milkshake IPA, a collaboration with Hanson Brothers Beer Co. This new beer will make its debut at the Hop Jam Beer & Music Festival, scheduled for May 19th in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It will also be one of the featured beers at the Hop Jam Firkin Feast Beer Dinner, a pre- festival occasion scheduled for May 18.
Why the music connection, you ask? Well, it turns out that Destihl’s co- founder, Matt Potts, is a musician himself and he originally met Taylor, Isaac, and Zac Hanson when he was playing drums with them. It was part of The Intersection of Beer & Music Presentation, an event held at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado from 2014 through 2016. Destihl debuted its beers in Oklahoma in 2016 and took part in the Hop Jam that year and each year since. The Hanson Brothers stopped by the Destihl beer booth last year and that is when the collaboration idea started to take shape.
Beer and entertainment are often presented together and Potts says that this collaboration takes things one step further, combining beer and tunes and creating a beer to celebrate.
“This exciting collaboration has produced the ultimate culmination of the intersection of beer + music between DESTIHL and HANSON, and it’s been a fun project that’s likely just the beginning of more great beers to come”, said Potts.
Band member Taylor Hanson says the name of the collaboration brew was taken from a Hanson Brothers song.
“For inspiration in naming this collaboration, we looked to one of our songs, ‘Penny And Me’, which references Pink Moonlight, as a subtle nod to the peaches and lactose in this beer. Our connection with Matt and the DESTIHL team is personified in this special collaboration, fusing our love of craft beer and music. There could not be a more perfect time to share it than at the Hop Jam Festival which is all about the connection between those two worlds,” says Hanson.
Pink Moonlight Peach Milkshake IPA will be available at the Hop Jam Festival and will also be sold in 4- packs of 12 oz. cans at select retailers in Oklahoma beginning the week of May 20th. It will be offered at DESTIHL Brewery’s Beer Hall in Normal, IL beginning on May 17th.
