Destihl Brewery has been growing steadily since it first opened its doors in 2007 and in a few weeks, the Normal, Illinois brewing operation will unveil the latest in the expansion efforts: An all- new Beer Hall at its $14 million state of the art production facility.
The date for the opening is set for Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. local time and craft beer fans are all but guaranteed to be impressed. The Beer Hall covers 6,300 square feet and forms a small portion of the gigantic 47,000 square foot brewery. The Beer Hall, with its brick structure and industrial brewing age appearance, will accommodate well over 200 guests and features a view of the brewhouse, allowing guests the opportunity to enjoy their beer while watching the brewing and packaging process live, in action. Even cooler, the Beer Hall will offer another view of an adjacent lake from two large, open air patios on the brewery’s south side.
Destihl is expanding for one obvious reason: To meet growing demand. The brewery’s products are now sold in 19 states and its most popular beers have actually been ‘wait listed’ in several markets due to the simple fact that there was not sufficient capacity to produce them. At the top of the list of consumer demands are Destihl’s award winning beers such as Here Gose Nothin’ and Dosvidanya Russian Imperial Stout. Other highly acclaimed beers in the Destihl lineup include Vertex IPA, Weissenheimer Hefeweizen, DeadHead Imperial Red IPA, and Saint Dekkera Reserve Sour Ales. Availability will be much better once the new brewery is running full throttle.
Destihl Brewing Founder/CEO Matt Potts says the new brewery was part of a long- term vision for the company and it is great to see these plans played out.
“Building this new production brewery has been part of our long-term business plan since we opened our first brewpub in Normal in November 2007, so to see it now almost completed is a dream come true for our dedicated team at DESTIHL and a great reward and milestone for the years of success for our company”, said Potts. “Much like our brewpubs have become culinary destinations, this facility will be an exciting destination brewery for both our local community and for visitors from around the country, while providing a permanent home for years of growth.”
Destihl began construction on the new brewery in 2016 and when up and running, it will employ approximately 100 people. The brewery’s two existing brewpubs in Normal and Champaign, Illinois, already employ 180 people. Normal, Illinois has a population just over 50,000 so these 100 added jobs are bound to have a noticeable impact on the local economy.
Growth is almost always a positive and welcome part of doing business. Destihl Brewery continues to move forward as a company, achieving production goals almost as quickly as new goals are written. The new brewery and Beer Hall will be great for the beer loving folks in Normal, Illinois and the opening day is sure to be well- attended. If you live in the area, set aside some time to attend the grand opening on May 27, and show your support for this new place for local brew.
