Spradley said, “We filmed the pilot last year and showed it to some industry people who really liked it and gave us some great feedback. Now we’re taking it to the people with the crowd funding campaign. There is a place for this show on TV!”
The campaign will launch via Indiegogo on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 to pay for a full season and seeks to raise $300,000 to produce 14 episodes total. Supporters will receive perks ranging from participating brewery t-shirts and glassware to associate producer credit and for $1000, a chance to appear in an episode as an extra, and attend the “wrap party” when filming is completed at a selected brewery.
The show will feature destinations such as Bend, Oregon; New Glarus, Wisconsin; Omaha, Nebraska; Tampa, Florida; and Houston, Texas, taking viewers behind the scenes of breweries and introducing them to the people behind the beer. The scheduled release date for the first episode is February 10, 2015.
The show will also feature chefs, local to the featured brewery, preparing amazing dishes and pairing each with the perfect beer. The recipes for the dishes on the show will be available to the viewers on the website after the show airs. Digital content will include “behind-the-scenes” and “Beers With” segments.
By combining beer, food and travel in one show, Destination Beer brings together three things that Americans are passionate about. According to Brewers Association statistics, there are over 95 million beer lovers in America. Craft beer growth in 2013 was 17.2% by volume and 20% by dollars continuing a staggering growth model as compared to the overall economy including overall beer sales which declined 1.9%. Cooking shows are also growing in popularity. The Food Network saw growth of over 20% in 2012 with a nightly average of 1.1 million total viewers ranging in age from 25-54.
Spradley also hosts a weekly radio show about beer, What’s On Tap Radio, which just won an award from the North American Guild of Beer Writers in the Best Podcast category.
If a network is not chosen by February 10, episodes will air on the new Destination Beer You Tube Channel.
