Dogfish Head Brewery is one America’s best known craft breweries. Beloved for its outstanding craft suds, Dogfish Head is also a place that celebrates music and in honor of the upcoming 10th anniversary of Record Store Day, Dogfish Head is releasing a brand new beer, Beer To Drink Music To ’17, a tropical blonde ale, and will celebrate on the music end with a special album and a two- month city tour of independent record stores and beer bars where everyone will share their love of great beer and turntables.
First, let’s talk about the beer. Beer to Drink Music To ’17 is a special brew made with hibiscus flowers and kiwi juice. The beer crosses several different fruit flavors and aromas and finishes crisp and dry. Beer to Drink Music To ’17 has a pinkish color and contains 6.8 percent alcohol by volume. It is scheduled for release on February 1, 2017.
Dogfish Head Brewery will kick off its music tour beginning in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday March 3 and ending in Philadelphia on Record Store Day, Saturday, April 22. To add to the fun, Dogfish Head has partnered with Sony music to create an album, aptly titled Music to Drink Beer To, Vol. 3. Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione and Sony Music Legacy Recordings President Adam Block collaborated on the selection of songs for the album, which is set to be released on April 22. Calagione stresses that music and beer are companions as natural as food and drink and he and the Dogfish Head team try to blend the two as often as possible.
“The enjoyment of a beautiful beer with an amazing album at the same time is an exponentially awesome experience,” says Calagione. “I fell in love with music at the same time I fell in love with beer, and in an increasingly digital age, vinyl records provide a deep, tangible connection to music that reverberates with craft beer fans,” Calagione added.
Anyone familiar with Dogfish Head Brewery’s special releases knows well that music has inspired several beers. Musical artists such as Miles Davis, Deltron 3030, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and Guided by Voices have all been honored in special beers named after and inspired by them. “Our brewery has been obsessed with music since the day we opened,” says Calagione. “And we have enjoyed every opportunity to weave together the art of brewing with our love of music, as often and meaningfully as we can.”
