Beer festivals are a welcome respite from the daily grind. Here at Great Beer Now, we look forward to attending as many beer festivals each year as possible and we don’t limit ourselves to only the large, well- established events with tens of thousands of attendees. We like to partake in the smaller beer festivals as well and one of the best in the nation is the Katy Wild West Brew Fest, held in the west Houston suburb of Katy, Texas, near Great Beer Now headquarters. Here are some quick facts about this beer extravaganza:

Date and Time: Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a special launch party on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Katy Wild West Brew Fest is now in its fifth year and I have been attending and sponsoring/supporting the event since its debut in the summer of 2012. Back then, the Katy Wild West Brew Fest was held in Villagio Town Center but after a few years, the Rotary Club of Katy (organizers of the event) quickly realized that greater space was needed. They have now moved the festival to its new location: The Katy Mills Mall, located at 5000 Katy Mills Circle in Katy, Texas. The expanded space has been great for festival goers, both for the additional elbow room and the ease of parking (this is a large shopping center, after all!). It also means more space for breweries to set up a booth and pour their brew and, the last time I checked, the festival had signed up more than 100 breweries expected to pour over 400 malt beverage options. But beer is only part of the afternoon of entertainment, as guests can also expect:
- Live music performed on multiple stages
- Best beer contest
- Complimentary transportation courtesy of Texas Beer Bus
- Close proximity to hotels near the Katy Mills Mall
Katy Wild West Brew Fest has gained national attention from several reputable sources. The fest received its greatest recognition to date when Beeryeti.com named it the Best Beer Festival of 2015 and the Most Desired Beer Festival to attend in 2016. Part of the reason is due to the great selection of craft beer, but this is only a small cause of the recognition. The rest is charity. Katy Wild West Brew Fest is a strong supporter of local causes and in its four years has donated over a quarter million dollars to charity. In fact, the Katy Wild West Brew Fest is one of the few festivals of its kind that donates all of its proceeds to worthy causes. Volunteers do all the work.

Beer festivals come in many sizes and there is no doubt that the larger festivals have many great things to offer. But some of the smaller beer festivals are every bit as good and the Katy Wild West Brew Fest is certainly one of the best in the USA.
