Bend, Oregon is one of the nation’s premiere craft beer cities and besides earning bragging rights for its impressive brewery/population ratio, Bend is equally fervent about homebrew. The Central Oregon Homebrewers Organization sponsors many homebrew events and its annual Spring Fling Homebrew Competition returns this April, ready to crown the best in homemade suds.
Spring Fling Homebrew Competition will take place the weekend of April 21 – 23, 2017 at the Aspen Ridge Retirement Community located at 1010 NE Purcell Blvd. in Bend, Oregon. Judging will begin on Friday, April 21 and conclude on Saturday, April 22. Awards will be handed out on Sunday, April 23, starting at 1 p.m. at a special ceremony open to the public. Along with the announcement of the winning homebrews, the eventful day will include a raffle plus the opportunity to sample some delicious homemade beer.
Spring Fling Homebrew Competition is sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association and is open to anyone age 21 and up. Professional brewers may enter the competition as long as the beer they brew and submit is made using a home system as opposed to a professional system. Entries are open to homebrewed beer, mead, or cider as defined in the 2015 BJCP Guidelines. Brewers can enter multiple beers in the same main category, but can enter only one beer into each subcategory. The overall limit for submissions into the competition is 350. Once that number is reached, the competition will be closed to further entries.
The deadline to submit drop- off entries is April 14. If you live out of town and want to submit your homebrew into the competition, you may ship your properly- packed bottles to The Brew Shop in Bend, Oregon. Shipped entries must be received no later than April 10, 2017. Be sure to check the Spring Fling Info Page for specific shipping instructions and official information.
