Craft breweries in Massachusetts are hosting an online gathering this weekend to talk about beer and support a local Boston charity in the process.
The virtual beer festival is called Fest From Home and so far, 25 Massachusetts breweries have signed up in support of the cause. The event was organized by Kevin York Communications, a PR firm, and it will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 1 to 5:30 p.m Eastern Daylight Time. Tickets to the virtual festival are $5 each and proceeds will benefit Project Bread, a Boston charity that works to fight hunger.
Kevin York says the decision to organize the event was inspired by the large number of similar events taking place across the nation.
“We saw a lot of these happening in other parts of the country,” said York. “We thought, ‘What if we did this to give visibility to an industry that could really use it right now?’ “
Since this is a virtual festival, attendees will watch on their electronic screens as each of the featured breweries pours one of its beers. Interested parties are encouraged to purchase one of the featured beers ahead of time to enjoy while they watch the show. York recommends trying beers at home as they are poured because, well, it’s the next best thing to being there.
“We thought about how we bring some of those tangible elements that make people feel like they’re at a beer festival,” says York. “The main one is tasting the same beers everyone else is tasting.”
The full list of beers can be found on the PR firm’s web site. Retailers selling boxes of beers for the event include local favorites such as Julio’s Liquors and Marty’s Fine Wines. Information on these retailers can also be found on the PR firm’s site.
Fest From Home will take place via Zoom and Facebook Live. The event will include much more than pouring beers- it will also feature live interviews and pre- recorded video, as well as plenty of small talk about the beer itself.
Tickets for Fest From Home are now available on EventBrite. It’s a fun way to learn about beer and support a worthy cause, so purchase your tickets today!
