America’s National Parks and related areas are sights to behold. Notable for their rugged beauty, historical significance, recreational opportunity, and so much more, the units of the National Park Service are a testament to the many things that make this country great.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service and Asheville, North Carolina breweries are teaming up to celebrate the parks, encourage people to visit them more often, and drink great beer in the process. The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is sponsoring the campaign with the breweries and it is called “Find Your Pint,” a beer themed twist on the National Park Service’s “Find Your Park” initiative.
Involved in the Find Your Pint campaign are 17 Asheville brewing operations: Asheville Brewing Co., Blue Ghost Brewing, Boojum Brewing, Burial Beer, Catawba Brewing, Green Man Brewery, Highland Brewing, Hi-Wire Brewing, Innovation Brewing, Lookout Brewing, New Belgium Brewing, Pisgah Brewing, Sierra Nevada Brewing, Sweeten Creek Brewing, Thirsty Monk, Twin Leaf Brewery and Wicked Weed Brewing. Each of the participating breweries is honoring the National Park Service by brewing special batches of beer named after various locations on the Blue Ridge Parkway. With each sale of beer, the participating breweries will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.
To encourage craft beer fans to sample each beer and maximize donations to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, the Find Your Pint campaign will include a special passport program. The idea is to visit each brewery, sample one of the special beers, and collect a designated Passport sticker. The Passport booklets will be available at each participating breweries. For added fun, Passport holders can register online to win tickets to a V.I.P. event at New Belgium Brewing. With each social media post, beer lovers are encouraged to use #FindYourPint plus directly tag the individual brewery and Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to spread the good word.
The National Park Service turns 100 on August 25, 2016. When it was founded in 1916, there were only 35 units in the NPS system. Today, there are more than 400 and many are in serious need of funding to maintain the parks and keep them in top condition for the enjoyment of Americans and foreign tourists. Do your part to help the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation continue its educational outreach and preservation work by visiting these participating Asheville breweries for the “Find Your Pint campaign. And while you’re at it, be sure to visit one of the 400+ National Parks, National Monuments, National Memorials, National Seashores, and other NPS units during this centennial year. Our National Park System contains many awe- inspiriting sites and it is up to every one of us to show our support and preserve these national treasures for another one hundred years and beyond.
