Summer is here and as every beer lover knows, a change in seasons means a change in seasonal beers. Flat12 Bierwerks in Indianapolis is changing up its beer routine just like many other breweries, with the release of the popular summer favorite, Cucumber Kolsch.
Flat12 Bierwerks, as some might recall, went through a rebranding of sorts just recently with the help of Vision Concepts. Cucumber Kolsch has also gone through some changes in packaging and design and Vision Concepts is, once again, responsible for the bold, new look. The beer will now be offered in 6 packs of 12 ounce cans and will feature a hand- illustrated can design. Cucumber Kolsch will be the fourth Flat12 Bierwerks beer to be packaged in metal and brewery president Sean O’Connor says the change will benefit consumers who want to take beer to places where glass is often forbidden.
“People know us for our hopped up varieties and barrel-aged beers, but with the popularity of our IndyCar collaboration beer, Hinchtown Hammerdown, and the excitement around the return of Cucumber Kölsch, our summertime beers are right up there with our signature brews. As the weather gets warmer and people want to throw a 6-pack in the cooler and head out to the park or the lake, we are excited to have our summertime favorites like Hinchtown Hammerdown, Upside Down Blonde, and now, Cucumber Kölsch in such a convenient package. We can’t wait to see where our customers take Flat12 this summer,” said O’Connor.
Cucumber Kolsch is made for refreshment, containing a modest 5.2 percent alcohol by volume and only 28 IBUs of bitterness. The golden- hued brew is made using pilsner malt and cold fermentation plus, of course, an infusion of cucumber. It’s a great match for a hot day and goes down cool and easy.
Flat12 Bierwerks Cucumber Kölsch will be available starting in June and continuing through mid- July, at which point it will be replaced by the next seasonal release, Pinko Russian Imperial Stout release. Flat Jack Pumpkin Ale will follow in August and Flat12 Bierwerks plans to release a brand new fall seasonal in September.
Summer beers generally lean toward thirst- quenching refreshment and Flat12 Bierwerks Cucumber Kolsch is certainly a beer brewed with warm weather in mind. Grab a six pack while you can- the beer will only be sold for a short time so get it while it’s still available and fight the summer heat with cool refreshment.
