What comes to mind when you think of Austin, Texas? Many people associate this Texas city with its status as the state capital and its penchant for live music. Others are intrigued by the city’s unofficial slogan, ‘Keep Austin Weird’ and wonder exactly how Austin earned that title. But regardless of what comes to mind, there are many reasons to love Austin, Texas and beer and entertainment rank at the top of the list.
Live Music and More
Austin ranks among the top cities in the United States for live music. Most people are already familiar with the popular and long- lived television program, Austin City Limits, a PBS program that helped Austin win the coveted designation as the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’ and that continues to be enjoyed by younger generations. Any visit to Austin should include a stop at the ACL Live music venue. So many popular artists can trace their roots to a live performance in Austin that a visit to this or some other live music venue is a must.
Other entertainment abounds in the Texas capital city. Esther’s Follies is a great option for those who love comedy and magic shows. The Continental Club is perfect for people who love a smaller, more intimate atmosphere with an assortment of music ranging from blues to funk and beyond. And if you like to be entertained by live music or plays in a historic setting, then a visit to the Paramount Theatre should rank highly on your list.
Craft Beer Paradise
Live music might be what Austin, Texas is best known for, but Austin has also made a name for itself as a craft beer hot spot. The greater Austin metropolitan area is home to more than 50 independent craft breweries, many of them brewing beers of great distinction. Jester King and Live Oak Brewing are among the best known Austin- based brewing operations, but there are countless others. Hops & Grain Brewing and 512 Brewing are two of my personal favorites and Austin Beer Garden Brewing is one of the city’s most decorated, having won multiple Great American Beer Festival medals and other awards. Whatever style of beer you prefer or setting you like, Austin has a brewery and beer to match.
Visit Austin
Austin, Texas is much more than a state capital. The city maintains a progressive edge that, when countered by traditional elements, makes for an interesting conflict of sorts that helps to, well, keep Austin weird. The city is one of the best in the world for entertainment and craft beer and the city’s reputation for quality of life has led to an excellent Austin Real Estate market. Whether you consider Austin as a permanent home one day or simply as a place to experience as a tourist, there is much to enjoy here in the heart of Texas. Visit Austin, and discover how life was meant to be lived.
