Founders Brewing, one of the foremost names in American beer, has announced the release of Oktoberfest, a Marzen style brew. Founders brews this malty beer in accordance with the German Purity Law, or Reinheitsgebot, which limits the ingredients in beer to the traditional water, barley, yeast, and hops.
Founders Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki says the brewery’s Oktoberfest beer isn’t a style of beer Founders normally brews, but he is happy to take the plunge.
“Brewing traditional German-style beers, especially malt-forward lagers, isn’t something we’re especially accustomed to,” said Kosmicki. “I’ve really begun to enjoy drinking Märzens over the past few years and decided to get serious about a recipe. Oktoberfest is brewed with malt and hops imported from Germany for a rich, malty character that still manages to stay light on the palate. Whether you’re celebrating Art Prize or Oktoberfest, this is the beer to do it with!”
The reference to ArtPrize is another reason to enjoy Founders Oktoberfest. In addition to the satisfaction this beer is certain to bring to Founders Brewing’s millions of fans, Oktoberfest is also the seventh release from Founders Brewing that supports ArtPrize, an international art competition that takes place in Founders hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Previous supporting releases for ArtPrize include Green Zebra, Pale Joe, Spectra Trifecta, Mosaic Promise, Inspired Artist Black IPA and Trigo.
Founders Oktoberfest weighs in at 6 percent alcohol by volume and will be available on draft at the Grand Rapids and Detroit taprooms, as well as in 12 oz. cans throughout the brewery’s distribution footprint, with the exception of Utah. The beer is scheduled for release in August, which will make it one of the earlier Oktoberfest beers released this season. It’s perfect for those who love the Marzen/Oktoberfest style and don’t want to wait for cooler weather to enjoy this classic German seasonal beer.
