Founders Brewing, one of America’s most celebrated breweries, has announced the final release of its highly- coveted 2018 Barrel Aged Series. The beer is Canadian Breakfast Stout, a dark, complex coffee/chocolate stout aged in maple bourbon barrels. This same beer was released last year and generated quite a buzz among beer fans. The 2018 release is expected to stir up equal enthusiasm and the bottles are expected to sell out quickly.
Dave Engbers, Founders Brewing President and co- founder, says the decision to bring back Canadian Breakfast Stout for another year was an easy one to make, given the intense affection this beer generates from fans.
“We’ve been ramping up our barrel-aged program over the past few years and it’s allowed us to expand our offerings,” said Engbers. “We’re so excited to announce that CBS will be available for the second year in a row. The beer enthusiasts have been very vocal about their love for this beer and we’re happy we can accommodate. It’s what we love to do.”
Canadian Breakfast Stout was originally conceived by Founders Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki who happened to come across some bourbon barrels one day that had previously contained maple syrup. Sensing a creative opportunity, Kosmicki added the same base beer used to brew Kentucky Breakfast Stout and the result was a knockout taste treat featuring flavors of maple, chocolate, roasted coffee and other complex tasting notes imparted from the barrel aging process.
Canadian Breakfast Stout is the sixth Founders Barrel- Aged Beer release for 2018. It follows KBS, Backwoods Bastard, Dankwood, Barrel Runner, and Curmudgeon’s Better Half. It is the final 2018 release of this always popular, always anticipated series.
Due to the anticipated high demand for Canadian Breakfast Stout, supplies are severely limited. The beer will be officially available for sale the first week of November, but tickets to buy bottles go on sale October 12, 2018, at 10 a.m. Central Time. Founders’ Detroit and Grand Rapids Mug Club Members will have first shot at making a purchase and should check their email for an exclusive bottle ticket pre- sale opportunity.
Canadian Breakfast Stout bottles are 750ml in volume and carry a suggested retail price of $24.99. They will be available for pickup at both Founders tap rooms on November 1, but only for those who have a ticket. A small number of remaining bottles will be available for general sale in all markets, both on tap and in bottled form, starting November 4.
