Vermont’s Four Quarters Brewing, founded in 2014, has always placed a special emphasis on ingredients. The Winooski, VT brewery likes to trace its ingredients to the cycle of life and the special journey that each one takes as it makes its way through the brewing cycle. Four Quarters is certainly an Earth- focused brewery. It likes to experiment on the unique Earthly elements that make every glass of beer memorable and special.
From the Earth to You
One Four Quarters beer that has been a fan favorite for some time is poised to return to the serving line this week. The beer is Tomato Basil, a 5 percent alcohol by volume sour ale brewed with local basil and roasted tomatoes. Such ingredients will likely conjure up images of Italian foods. There is no doubt that a beer with ingredients such as these would be worth pairing with your favorite lasagna, manicotti, or other Italian dish.
Four Quarters owner and head brewer Brian Eckert says this fan favorite is one he loves to brew for several reasons. Most of the reasons go back to the brewery’s emphasis on the Earth and sourcing locally whenever possible.
“We love to use local ingredients in our beers,” says Eckert. “We are right in the midst of Vermont’s fresh vegetable season and these ingredients really shine in our sour ale. We’re are amped to be back at the VBF (Vermont Brewers Festival) this year and look forward to sharing our beers.”
Where to Find
Four Quarters Tomato Basil will be available for only a limited time, on draft and in cans. Fans can find it on draft at the Four Quarters Taproom in Winooski, Vermont. If you can make it to the Vermont Brewers Festival in Burlington, you can sample it there. The Vermont Brewers Festival will be held July 21- 23 in Burlington Waterfront Park. It will also be available in four packs of cans and distributed throughout Vermont and Massachusetts.
It’s not every day that you find a beer brewed with tomatoes and basil. Four Quarters Tomato and Basil is one of the few beers of its kind and a unique treat for the senses. Be sure to seek it out while supplies last.

This does sound like it will go well with Italian food! We eat a lot of Italian food at our house so I’ll have to see if I can find this for my husband to pair with it next time.
