Full Sail Brewing Session beers are ideal for those times when you want real beer taste with a slight reduction in alcohol and calories. One of these Oregon brewed Session beers, Session Black Lager, is now available in a new flavor bound to satisfy those who don’t mind a little added fruit enhancement to their session brew. The new member of the session team is Session Black Cherry Black, a beer featuring tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, and dark cherry. Full Sail Brewmaster Jim Kelter says this new beer is like a dessert in a bottle.
“This new Session is Session Black with a cherry on top – actually, it’s more like a cherry cordial without the brandy,” says Kelter. “The aroma and flavor of cherry complements the smooth chocolate character of this dark lager. Brewed with Pale, Caramel, Munich and Chocolate malts, this is an easy-drinking wintertime beer. It’s not too heavy with just the right amount of cherry.”
Session Black Cherry Black pours to a dark red color with a head of tan foam. Flavors present include dark, roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, and sweet dark cherries. The beer matches up well with chocolate desserts, but its taste goes well with many other foods too, like grilled red meats and lighter cheeses such as Brie, ricotta, and mozzarella.
Full Sail Session beers have been around for quite some time. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago, but a quick check of the fact book shows that Full Sail launched the Session lineup 12 years ago. This family of beers has gradually expanded and with the addition of Session Black Cherry Black Lager, it is now eight beers strong, with both seasonal and year- round members.
Session Black Cherry Black Lager is an easy- drinking beer formulated and brewed in a way that makes it satisfying to a large percentage of the population. The beer contains 5.4 percent alcohol by volume and 22 IBU, both moderate for any beer. It will be available only as a seasonal Session beer for now, with distribution from January through April, but you never know what the future may bring, so stay tuned.
