Oregon is home to many award- winning breweries, many of which continue to innovate and push the envelope of craft beer. Full Sail Brewing is one brewery that embraces the new and the company is set to release another in its Brewmaster Reserve series. The new beer is Capsize Imperial Pilsner, a summer beer release with an intense aroma of pine and citrus balanced by malty goodness and a long, clean, hoppy bitterness.
Full Sail Brewmaster Jim Kelter says this variation on a traditional pilsner is bound to be a hit with craft beer fans who want something out of the ordinary that is also easy on the palate.
“With an extra load of Cascade hops from start to finish, we have upended our Pilsner,” says Kelter. “Big hop flavors of citrus and pine abound, but with a smooth malt character this one is remarkably easy to drink.”
Capsize Imperial Pilsner begins with Full Sail’s award-winning Cascade Pilsner as a base. From there, the beer is dry hopped , adding more aroma and flavor. The blend of Cascade, Citra, and Crystal hops help to nicely balance the malt base yet the brewers keep the bitterness in check.
Full Sail Brewing fans might recognize the Capsize Imperial Pilsner name, and that is because there was another Full Sail beer released in the early 2000’s that used the same title. This new version might have the same name, but the recipe is completely different. The 2016 Capsize Imperial Pilsner is brewed with summer in mind and it goes very well with a picnic barbecue featuring foods such as burgers, steaks, and barbecued pork. The spicy, hoppy character of the beer also makes it a good match for an equally assertive dessert such as ginger bread or carrot cake,
Full Sail’s Brewmaster Reserve series is known for its creative inclinations and Capsize Imperial Pilsner is certainly a beer worthy of the Brewmaster Reserve series name. With 7 percent alcohol by volume and 60 IBU’s, it’s definitely a notch above the statistical measurements of other summer brews and it’s sure to bring new levels of happiness to any summer day. It will be available only from June through October so grab a bottle while you can.
