Paulaner is one of Germany’s most prized import beers and here in the United States, fans of this legendary German brew are going to have more packaging options than before. Paulaner USA, the importer of the famous German beer, announced that starting in the Spring of 2019, Paulaner will offer two of its popular brands in metal cans for the first time. Paulaner Hefeweizen and Original Munich Lager will both be packaged in one- half liter (16.9 ounce) cans, perfect for consumers who prefer metal to glass.
Steve Hauser, President/CEO of Paulaner USA, says the new packaging meets changing consumer demands and is perfect for the warmer time of the year, when beer drinkers want to take beer with them to more places, many of which frown upon glass bottles.
“We are thrilled to launch our products in cans as we continue to find ways to satisfy the needs of our consumers and allow them to enjoy our product without comprising flavor,” says Hauser. “What’s more, with the product now available in cans, current and prospective Paulaner fans can now drink a real Bavarian brew in places that may restrict glass bottles. This includes venues like concerts, golf courses, beaches or even biergartens, to name a few,” Hauser added.
With the transition to metal, Paulaner has, as expected, kept quality at the forefront. Each can is lightweight, BPA free, and like any most any metal container, unbreakable and offering complete protection from light and oxygen, which are two of the enemies of beer. And, as most are already aware, Paulaner brews its beers in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, otherwise known as the German Purity Law. According to this strict standard, beer can be brewed with only four ingredients: Malt, yeast, hops, and water- nothing more, nothing less.
Hauser stresses that the new cans will deliver all the taste with added advantages.
“The combination of our outstanding beer in a high quality can provides the best of both worlds to consumers. The cans perfectly reflect our traditional heritage to appeal to both long-time Paulaner fans as well as a whole new generation,” said Hauser. “They also are environmentally friendly and easier to recycle than glass, a consideration that is more important today than ever”, Hauser added.
Cans took time to catch on in the United States and there were many naysayers at first. Now, cans are more than just an acceptable alternative to bottles. Many people, in fact, prefer canned beer to bottled beer and here at Great Beer Now, we count ourselves among them. The flavor quality is just as good and with cans, you have greater freedom to take your beer to more places, including many beaches, swimming pools, etc., where glass is often forbidden.
It’s cool to see this classic German import offered in metal cans and I can’t wait to get my hands on a multi- pack of metal vessels filled with the sweet nectar of over 400 years of German brewing craftsmanship. Look for these new cans wherever Paulaner products are currently sold and enjoy the great outdoors more than ever before with the added freedom that metal offers.

Three questions:
1) What is the Distribution timing in the US?
2} Will the Oktoberfest bier be available in cans since you already distribute it year round in the US?
3) Define multi-pack offering. 4-Pack. 6-Pack, 12- Pack or 24-Pack?
Thank you in advance-Prost!

According to Paulaner, the new half- liter cans will arrive in stores starting in late March, 2019. They will be offered in 4 packs. The Oktoberfest could very well be added to the canned beer list, but no official word has been given yet.

Any indication what the Sell-In pricepoint will be for the Paulaner 6-Pack? Lots of competition but the can packing should drive down the price.
Bryan says
The average price per 4 pack (it’s not offered in 6 packs, like I previously thought) nationwide will be $7.99
