Glissade Golden Bock pours to a deep golden color with a healthy head of foam that looks nice, but only lasts for a couple of minutes. This beer has a clear body and its nose is grainy, toasty, and a little bit fruity- mainly apple.
Glissade Golden Bock offers a pleasant flavor combination. First, you taste sweet, crisp malt that seems a little lighter than usual. But this quickly transitions to a grassy/earthy flavor combination that is slightly bitter. The aftertaste is very pleasant, with pale malts and fruit components vying for attention.
Glissade Golden Bock is a fairly complex Helles Bock made with the following ingredients: Two row pale malt, Munich malt, Europils malt, and crystal malt; Magnum, Perle, Spalter, Aurorian, and Styrian hops; and lager yeast. The bitterness rating for this beer is 42 IBU and the alcohol content is 6.4% by volume.
Sierra Nevada is known for quality and Glissade Golden Bock continues this tradition with a seasonal beer that has body and character. This beer isn’t too heavy or too light and what I like best is the way it stimulates so many of the senses. At first, it seems somewhat light up- front, but your impression quickly changes as you sample it further. The body gets a little heavier, the taste becomes more complex, the flavorful hops add a slightly bitter finish, and the aftertaste is quite good and memorable.
Bock beer will always be associated with the Spring season and Glissade Golden Bock is certainly a product worth seeking out while it is still available. It offers very nice balance and drinkability, along with great flavors that stimulate the senses and keep you coming back for more.
