California- based 101 North Brewing Company just announced the release of a new series of beer; a series that pays tribute to a Hollywood legend and political activist.
The first release in the series is called Two Hops for Sister Sara and it will be the first of three beers that celebrate the life of actor and director Clint Eastwood. The man responsible for such memorable films as Dirty Harry, Pale Rider, and Gran Torino will be immortalized in beer. 101 North Brewmaster Joel Johnson says the decision to honor Clint was made quickly and enthusiastically.
“What can we say? We dig his work,” said Johnson. “And after recently implementing our Catch & Release IPA Series, we thought ‘Hey, what if we based a special, small-batch parody on one of our favorite cult figures?’ Clint was a ridiculously easy decision for us. Narrowing down the vast iconic movie choices was a longer endeavor. As for Sister Sara, we dug the innuendos and sexual tension within the flick, and even though this is a romantic comedy posing as a Hollywood Western, he’s still as tough as the no-named hero in the earlier Sergio Leone films. The Ennio Morricone soundtrack was icing on the cake. Obviously the corresponding label artwork needed to be worthy, and our friend Xander came through huge for us.”
Two Hops for Sister Sara is named for Clint’s 1970 film, Two Mules for Sister Sara and to make the celebration of beer and film star complete, 101 North has planned a bomber bottle release at its Tap Room in Petaluma, California on Sunday, Feb. 11 followed by a beer pairing on Monday, February 12 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in San Francisco. And what do you suppose will be paired with the beer at Alamo? What else- a showing of Two Mules for Sister Sara.
Two Hops for Sister Sara is a Double IPA brewed using Mosaic and Citra Hops and it will be followed later in the spring with the next two releases in the series, Dirty Hoppy and Escape from Alecatraz. There could even be a fourth release if/when the folks at 1010 North Brewing can create another pun using any one of Clint Eastwood’s many movies.
Fans of 101 North Brewing and Clint Eastwood can count themselves among the first to taste Two Hops for Sister Sara by visiting the North 101 Tap Room, located at 1304 Scott Street in Petaluma starting at noon on February 11. Select bottle shops around the region shall carry limited amounts the following week. The movie and beer pairing at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, located at 2550 Mission Street in San Francisco, will take place at 6 p.m. For more information on the beer series, events, etc., visit online at 101northbeer.com.
