Easily the top news story of 2022 so far has been the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. Lots of private businesses have come forward to aid the Ukraine in its defensive efforts and the craft beer industry is one of them.
Just recently, Ukranian craft brewery Pravda took to social media to announce that it was making its beer recipes available to commercial brewers, to help raise funds. One brewery that quickly stepped up the plate is Kentucky’s Goodwood Brewing and Spirits. In a few days, Goodwood will release its version of Pravda’s Syla, a Belgian Strong Ale, in support of the cause.
Jerry Sutherlin, one of Goodwood’s brewers, was ready to lead his company’s efforts to aid the Ukraine and its people.
“The beer community is a tight one and we want to support our craft beer friends in any way that we can. It’s been really neat to see brewers from around the world come together for this effort”, said Sutherlin.
Pravda’s plea for help was one of concern, but also ultimate optimism:
“Brewing in Lviv now sounds like a non-priority. The city is bracing for a fight. Alcohol is forbidden, and we once in a lifetime support it. But brewing now – like giving birth or a marriage – is hope. Beer takes several weeks to be ready. We hope we win by then. We’ll invite prominent craft breweries to join us for on-line brewing sessions. We will stream the process. Join in with support and donations as we brew in Lviv, the city that prepares for the battle. Soon we will win this war and have a good beer. The beer of victory.”
It’s great to see the craft beer community rally around this important cause. Beer is about community and it’s not surprising that Goodwood Brewing would be one of the craft beer operations fighting the good fight. Stop by one of Goodwood’s brewing locations in Louisville, Lexington, Frankfurt, Indianapolis (IN), or Columbus (IN) for a taste of this beer. $1 of every pint sold will go to Pravda’s relief fund for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

I’m so happy they are doing all they can to help Ukraine. Thank you for shedding light on this subject matter as well.
I think it’s amazing that people are finding ways, even unconventional, to help out the efforts. It may not be what you first think of, but any help is welcome.
