Louisville Kentucky’s Goodwood Brewing knows a thing or two about barrel- aged beer and many consumers rank Goodwood’s barrel aged brews among the brewery’s best tasting products. Now, Goodwood is set to offer the flip side of this product offering as the brewery moves into the distilled spirits realm, releasing a premium bourbon aged in stout barrels.
Goodwood Spirits is the all- new product branch at Goodwood Brewing and the first release of many more to come is a 90 proof bourbon aged in charred white oak barrels for 12 years before finishing off the aging process in Goodwood Bourbon Stout barrels. The resulting product features flavors such as malt, cocoa, vanilla, and caramel- a combination quite unique among the bourbons of the world.
Goodwood CEO Ted Mitzlaff says the addition of distilled spirits makes perfect sense when you consider the brewery’s frequent use of bourbon barrels to age its beer, not to mention where the brewery is located.
“Bourbon has always been an integral part of the Goodwood product line with our barrel aged program” said Mitzlaff. “We are located in the heart of bourbon Country and understand the tremendous impact barrel finishing has on creating superior taste profiles. We are extremely excited to launch our first of many spirit expressions and believe the consumer will enjoy our Stout Bourbon as much as we do.”
Goodwood Spirits Premium Bourbon is set for release in early February, 2019 first in the Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky markets. The bourbon and other future spirit releases will eventually make their way throughout Kentucky. The spirits will also be available for purchase in the Goodwood Brewing Taproom in Louisville. The Premium Bourbon sounds like a taste sensation not to miss, so be sure to make your way to Goodwood Brewing in the coming months to try this and other distilled spirits and to congratulate the brewery on its move to booze.
