Goodwood Brewing, the Louisville, Kentucky brewery with a reputation for quality and innovation, has released another new beer, one that seems like it was brewed with warmer temperatures in mind.
The new beer is El Gozador, a gose style beer that has many of the taste features one would expect in the style, with an added twist: It is aged in tequila barrels! This adds a bit of boozy character to the beer and complements perfectly the added mandarin oranges and fresh squeezed lime juice. There is a touch of saltiness, too, for a taste that will remind many of a margarita.
El Gozador is tequila accented, but it still serves up real beer flavor. The tequila flavor is subtler than one might expect and it meshes quite nicely with the gose style. It is surprising, in fact, that other breweries have not started to age gose beer in tequila barrels. The saltiness and fruitiness common to this style make it an excellent candidate for tequila barrel aging.
This refreshing beer is medium to light in body, with 5.2 percent alcohol by volume and a scant 11 IBU of bitterness. It will be sold on draft and in 4- packs of 12 ounce cans throughout Goodwood’s fourteen state distribution area. Look for it in places where Goodwood Brewing beers are presently sold and enjoy the refreshment and boozy attributes of this summertime brew.
