Louisville, Kentucky is home to a growing number of craft breweries, each vying for a market niche in a field that continues to crowd itself with newcomers to the fold. One recently launched craft brewery has made a name for itself through the use of wood. It’s Goodwood Brewing, located in the heart of downtown Louisville. This brewing operation is about to launch a new beer and it wants you, its diverse fans, to help select a recipe.
Goodwood’s year- round beer lineup presently consists of about seven barrel- aged brews and Goodwood is about to add another to the list. It’s going to be named Spruce Tip IPA, but Goodwood isn’t yet certain which one of three recipes will make its way to the canning line. This is where you, the beer connoisseur, can make your mark. Goodwood is hosting a tasting event on December 29 at its Louisville taproom where each of the three contenders will be available to try. Guests will be asked to vote and the one that tallies up the most affirmations will become the chosen recipe, set for release on draft and in 6- packs of cans in March, 2017.
With a lineup that presently emphasizes the malty end of the spectrum, Goodwood decided that it was high time they brewed a beer tailor made for the hop lovers among us. Brewmaster and COO Joel Halbleib says Spruce Tip IPA is the answer.
“People know us for our barrel-aged and malty varieties, but we’re excited to offer something new for the hop-head in all of us! This is just the start of some of the new styles we will be releasing in 2017,” said Halbleib.
Goodwood beers are presently packaged in bottles with a few beers offered in both bottles and cans, as well as on draft. The brand’s distribution footprint continues to grow, presently reaching eight states: Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, Illinois, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. In a short time, distribution will expand to include South Carolina, West Virginia, and Missouri. I’ve had the fortune of trying one Goodwood Brewing beer, Goodwood Bourbon Barrel Stout, and I look forward to trying more.
Goodwood Brewing is a craft brewery on the rise and its foray into the world of IPA is certain to be a hit with its growing fan base. If you live in the Louisville area, make your way to the Goodwood Taproom located at 636 E. Main Street in Louisville on Thursday, December 29, 2016. It’s a great way to try new beer and help Goodwood decide on the best recipe for its forthcoming Spruce Tip IPA.
