Nothing can match the thrill of a great beer festival. The opportunity to try new beers, revisit beers you haven’t tasted in a while, and make connections with brewery personnel while meeting new friends who share your love of the craft combine to make a beer festival one of the greatest experiences in the known universe. And quite possibly the biggest and arguably best beer festival in the United States is the Great American Beer Festival, held each year in Denver, Colorado and scheduled this year for October 3, 4, and 5, 2019.
As expected, the Great American Beer Festival will be held in downtown Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. Available sessions for the festival are similar to those of past years:
- Thursday, October 3: 5:30pm to 10pm
- Friday, October 4: 5:30pm to 10pm
- Saturday, October 5: 12pm to 4pm (Member Session)
- Saturday, October 5: 5:30pm to 10pm
Like with past years, the awards ceremony will take place Saturday morning. This is why many craft beer fans consider the Saturday sessions as the most desirable to attend. Winning breweries proudly display their Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal victories on Saturday, providing craft beer fans the opportunity to sample, first hand, the beers judged among the best in the land.
Tickets to each session go on sale beginning at 10am (Mountain Time) on July 30 for Brewers Association members and American Homebrewers Association members. Tickets for everyone else go on sale at 10am (Mountain Time) on July 31. Tickets have historically sold out extremely fast, but the Brewers Association- the organization that operates the Great American Beer Festival- has made important improvements to the software ticketing system. These updates should help keep bots and scalpers at bay, or at least make it far more difficult for these folks and their ilk to grab large numbers of tickets at a time. Craft beer fans should still be prepared to purchase tickets as quickly as possible regardless, just to be safe.
Beer festivals are, without question, my favorite way to spend an afternoon or evening and the Great American Beer Festival is an experience every beer lover should attend at least once in his/her lifetime.
