Craft beer is about much more than drinking and enjoying artisan lagers and ales. Brewery owners and personnel are often at the forefront of community involvement, lending their time and effort to making the world a better place. Green Flash Brewing in San Diego has devoted many resources to philanthropic efforts and one of its annual fundraisers is ready for another successful year. It’s the Green Flash Treasure Chest release program, an annual effort to raise money for breast cancer research.
Green Flash’s Treasure Chest program is now in its sixth year and like with past years, the 2016 effort will include the release of Treasure Chest beer, an IPA available in 22 oz. bomber bottles and on draft in select markets. The beer will be available from September through November, 2016, with a special launch festival at the Green Flash Brewery in San Diego on August 27, 2016. Toward the end of the Treasure Chest run, Green Flash has planned another party at its Virginia Beach brewery location, scheduled for November 12, 2016. Proceeds from sales of the beer will be donated to three different charities: Prevent Cancer Nationally and the Susan G Koman affiliates in San Diego and Virginia Beach.
Leading the fight against breast cancer is a natural fit for Green Flash Brewing. The brewery’s co- founder, Lisa Hinkley, is a breast cancer survivor and she knows all too well the difficulties and uncertainties felt by breast cancer victims.
“As a 6-year breast cancer survivor, I am thrilled to see the Treasure Chest program grow every year,” exclaims Hinkley. “Thanks to the support of our consumers, we are proud to have raised over $220,000 dollars for our national and regional charity partners to date. I am hopeful the program will only continue to build momentum as we strive toward making a difference in the lives of individuals affected by breast cancer.”
Treasure Chest events extend far beyond the two big festivals at the San Diego and Virginia breweries. Other events are set to take place in 27 different U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Events can include everything from beer dinners to tap takeovers and beyond. American craft breweries contribute to the enjoyment of so many people. They brew beer of great distinction, easily rivaling those of the finest breweries in the world and their loyal customers are ever grateful for their craftsmanship and deep commitment to quality. As Green Flash Brewing has shown once again, craft beer is about much more than a pleasant sensation on the palate. Craft beer is also about community and the Green Flash Treasure Chest program is another fine example of what can happen when concerned business owners place people ahead of profit.
