Guinness, the Irish brewery that put dry stout permanently on the map, just announced the release of another new beer from its Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore, Maryland. The new brew is Guinness Over the Moon Milk Stout, a creamy, sweet stout.
Guinness Over the Moon Milk Stout is brewed using a process similar to that of other milk stouts. It has added milk sugars in the form of lactose which helps it achieve its milk- like qualities. Flavors of roasted malt, milk chocolate, and coffee round out the tasting experience. It would be excellent consumed on its own, but it is also a fine companion to grilled meats, chocolate cream or pecan pie, chocolate chip cookies, coffee cake, and other similarly- flavored desserts.
One interesting thing about this latest Guinness product is the packaging. The blue can with its moon and sky artwork is derived from Guinness ads from the 1930βs and 1950βs. It depicts a pint of Guinness sitting atop the moon as it drifts among the clouds and stars.
Guinness Over the Moon Milk Stout contains 5.3 percent alcohol by volume and in case youβre wondering, it is sweeter than traditional Guinness Stout so its taste will likely prove a pleasant alternative for those who feel regular Guinness is too dry. The beer is currently distributed to select markets in Baltimore, Washington D.C., Boston, and Philadelphia. Starting in November, it will be distributed nationwide for a limited time.
Guinness is a classic name in stouts and here at Great Beer Now we are excited to see the iconic brewery experiment and release so many different beers from its American- based Open Gate Brewery. Over the Moon is definitely a beer we look forward to sampling and reviewing, so stay tuned to Great Beer Now for more information on this beer in the coming weeks.
