Collaborations between breweries and other businesses continue to flourish. Most of these partnerships involve two or more breweries. But American craft brewers are always ready to give other collaborations a try, especially if the synergy sounds promising. A recent joint effort between two Boston mainstays, Harpoon Brewery and Flour Bakery, has resulted in an interesting, limited release product, Harpoon Sticky Bun Stout.
Partners in Beer
Fluor Bakery Sticky Buns are the creation of co- owner Joanne Chang. The award- winning pastry chef feels that great food helps bring people together, a sentiment often expressed in craft beer circles.
“We believe that, through baking, we can spread love and happiness to the entire world,” said Chang. “When presented with the opportunity to work with Harpoon to develop this unique beer, we knew it was a natural partnership that would spread joy.”
Dan Kenary, Harpoon CEO and co- founder, feels that the partnership with Fluor Bakery is one that falls right in line with his brewery’s penchant for innovation.
“At Harpoon, inspiration finds us in many forms – whether experimenting with a new hop variety, learning an innovative brewing technique, or taking a trip to the neighborhood bakery,” said Kenary. “We are thrilled to partner with Flour, who shares our passion for creating awesome products and welcoming hospitality.”
Tasting Notes
Harpoon Sticky Bun Stout is true to its name, brewed with Fluor Bakery sticky buns, which are added directly into the brew. The beer features flavors of pecans, cinnamon, caramel, toasted malt, and brown sugar. It tastes much like an actual sticky bun or pecan roll, but with added booziness, of course. The alcohol content is 7.5 percent by volume and the bitterness rating is a low 15 IBU.
