This is the eighth entry in a multi- part series of blog posts relating to the Great Beer Now No Fibs Allowed Beer Tour 2018: A True Beer City Experience, which took place in the great city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Open up your favorite Midwestern- brewed beer and follow along as I explore Wisconsin’s largest city in search of the best in local suds. Cheers!
Craft beer is an all- around “good” thing. It tastes good (most of the time), it brings good to local economies, it encourages good, charitable actions, and so much more. The term “good” is therefore one that is befitting of craft beer and there happens to be a craft brewery that exemplifies this goodness in its chosen name. It’s Good City Brewing, located at 2108 N. Farwell Ave, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Good Place
Good City Brewing is a combination restaurant and brewery. Opened in 2016, this brewery is housed in a brick building with two large, garage- style doors in the front, leading me to believe that the space once housed an auto repair shop. The brewery has a modern interior with mod lighting and a lively atmosphere.
Other features of Good City Brewing include board games to play, outdoor seating and patio, and an open view of the brewhouse from the main dining area. It is common to find live music here in the evenings and plenty of open conversation.

Good Beer
Good City Brewing is approximately 15 taps strong. Here is a listing of the beers I sampled, listed alphabetical by name, followed by the style and my Untappd rating for each, on a 5- point scale:
- Counterpoint, Pale Lager, 4.25
- Detail, American Porter, 4
- Leo, Witbier, 4
- Risk, American IPA, 4.25
- Stadt, Rauchbier, 4
Overall average rating: 4.10 out of 5
Good City Brewing serves tasty brews. The options vary from one visit to the next, so always pay attention to the board behind the bar- it displays each beer available at the time. You can order small samples or larger servings and should have no problem finding a beer you like.

Good People
Good City Brewing is one of the younger Milwaukee breweries, but also one of its fastest growing. The brewery is only a couple of years old but has enjoyed such tremendous success that it has already signed an agreement to open another location right next to the new Milwaukee Bucks Arena in order to keep pace with demand and serve its many satisfied customers.
I visited Good City Brewing as part of my beer tour of the city of Milwaukee and while I could have visited other breweries during my limited time, I decided that Good City Brewing was an important one to visit because of all of the positive things I had heard. The online reviews, recommendations from other beer writers, and other factors convinced me that Good City Brewing had something good going for it so I made sure to add it to my tour.
Good City Brewing, I quickly learned, is just as popular and just as good as I expected it would be. I visited on a Saturday evening and it was overflowing with people. I was fortunate to find one empty seat at the bar and decided it was best if I grabbed it while it was available. I then looked up at the beers listed on the wall and selected a few for sampling. Yes, the beer was every bit as good as others said it would be and the employees and staff were good for conversing about the brewery, the beer, and the local community.
With the crowds so thick and the live music playing in the background, it wasn’t easy to get words in, but I did manage to strike up conversations with some good local people and in the process, I learned even more about the city of Milwaukee and its craft beer culture. One thing that struck me was that the interior of Good City Brewing has no televisions! Unless I completely overlooked them, there were no televisions and that meant no sports viewing or anything else. Good conversation seemed to be the goal at Good City Brewing and it was taking place all around me.
Good City Brewing is a restaurant as much as a brewery and before I visited, I had built up a hearty appetite and needed to eat. The menu features snacks, cheeses, pretzels, sandwiches, and dinner items. I was in the mood for a more traditional food and beer combination and so I ordered a burger and curry fries. The standout was definitely the fries. The seasoning was delicious, but I must warn that they do leave a yellowish coating on your fingertips that is difficult to wash off. Oh well, it’s a small price to pay, I suppose, for a food that tastes so good!
Craft beer is a force for good and Good City Brewing is certainly a good place to visit in the city of Milwaukee for good food, good beer, and good conversation. My time here was memorable and as I sipped on my beer, nibbled on my food, and talked freely with complete strangers, all I could think about was the brewery’s own motto encouraging us all to “Seek the Good” in everything we do. Good City Brewing is definitely a place where good things happen to good people so pay a visit to Good City Brewing the next time you’re in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And tell them Great Beer Now sent you.
