Michigan- based Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, the first brewery to specialize in all- wild, oak- aged beers, has announced it will package its brew in cans for the first time. The initial canned beers will include year- round selections Bam Bière and Calabaza Blanca along with a new beer, Hyrrokkin, the initial release in a newly launched fruited seasonal saison series.
Jolly Pumpkin Founder Ron Jeffries says the launch of these beers in metal packaging is great for consumers and the planet.
“I’m super excited to be able to bring some of our favorite beers, such as Bam Bière and Calabaza Blanca, and a new favorite, Hyrrokkin, into cans. They are lightweight, convenient, and environmentally friendly. Perfect for any occasion, indoors, or outdoors” said Jeffries.
For those who are not familiar with these beers slated for metal, Bam Biere is a farmhouse ale that is dry hopped and (now) can conditioned. It is low in calories and big on flavor, with a taste that strives to balance out spicy malts, hops, and yeast. Calabaza Blanca is a low- calorie farmhouse witbier that is spiced with orange peel and coriander and is quite popular with craft beer fans. Hyrrokkin, the newest of the newly can brews, is a foeder aged saison with added blood orange & ginger.
Tony Grant, CEO/CFO of Jolly Pumpkin parent company Northern United Brewing, admits it took time to make the move to metal, but he says the present moment was the right time to embrace the future.
“We are excited about this monumental move for Jolly Pumpkin. Our customers have been telling us for quite a while that we needed to give them a way to enjoy our beers in different settings. We always intended for our beers to be enjoyed as part of a special, shareable consumption opportunity and didn’t realize how much Jolly Pumpkin fans wanted to have this experience on the beach, boat, golf course, you name it. It took us a little while to “get there” but after some serious introspection and rethinking who we want to be when we grow up, we decided to take the leap. We are so excited to bring one of the world’s first barrel-aged, can/bottle/keg conditioned, wild ale breweries to you in our new 16 oz. 4-pack cans to join our beautiful Belgian bottles and draft offerings. Here we go!” said Grant.
Jolly Pumpkin Bam Bière, Calabaza Blanca, and Hyrrokkin will be available for purchase in 16 oz. four-packs of cans starting in April. Look for the new canned configuration throughout Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Florida, Texas, and Arizona.
