Houston’s Karbach Brewing won its ALCS wager last week after the Houston Astros successfully defeated the New York Yankees to advance to the World Series. The Astros victory means that Blue Point Brewing will be serving Karbach Crawford Bock at its New York taproom, a definite boon to New York Yankee fans who want to sample a tasty craft beer from another part of the country, even though the sting of defeat is still being felt and will be for some time.
Now that the Astros are in the World Series, Karbach Brewing has come forward with another friendly wager. This time, the brewery is Devils Backbone and the reason this brewery was selected is due to its Washington National baseball beer Earned Run Ale. The wager this time around will include not just beer, but also food and charity for even more fun and community support.
First, let’s talk about the beer. Karbach Brewing is once again featuring its Astros themed beer, Crawford Bock. The losing team will have to brew the opposing brewery’s beer and to add to the spirit of fun, Karbach brewing personnel will have to brew Earned Run Ale while wearing shark costumes with Nationals shirts over them. If the Nationals lose, then Devil’s Backbone will have to brew Crawford Bock while wearing astronaut costumes with Astros shirts over them.

With food, the losing team’s General Manager will make a special trip to the winning team’s taproom and serve the staff their city’s favorite burger. For Karbach Brewing, the burger is Whataburger and for Devil’s Backbone, the burger is Five Guys. The personnel from the winning brewery will get to chow down on a delicious burger while also savoring their team’s World Series victory.
Since community is so important to the brewing industry, Karbach and Devil’s Backbone have each pledged to send the profits from the sales of the other team’s beer to a specific charity. For Karbach Brewing, that charity is the Astros Foundation and for Devil’s Backbone, the charity is the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Karbach Brewing was successful with its wager against Blue Point Brewing and it’s cool to see another friendly wager with another brewery as the Astros battle the Washington Nationals for the World Series title. It’s all in fun and with the added charitable component, there are really no losers in a wager like this. Great Beer Now is based out of Houston so our allegiance is obviously with the Astros, but knowing that highly regarded charities are going to win in the end makes the possibility of a Astros loss slightly more bearable.
The World series is currently tied two games apiece, so it either team’s series to win or lose. I’m going to finish watching the series with a cold Karbach Crawford Bock in hand and I encourage any and all baseball fans to support local and enjoy your favorite hometown beer while you cheer your chosen team to victory.
Beer! LOL Love a good cold one!
