Beer lovers enjoy taking beer wherever they go. Whether it’s a trip to the beach, an overnight camping excursion, or a tailgate party celebration, having a good number of chilled cans or bottles of beer makes any outing that much better. To keep your beer cold and ready to drink, a good cooler is a must and one that I have used and love and is the Pelican Elite Cooler, a heavy duty chilling device that keeps food and drink cold for the duration.

A Reliable Companion
As a beer lover and frequent participant in outdoor activities, I use coolers with a high degree of frequency. I am aware of the differences from one cooler to the next and I keep an assortment of cooler sizes and designs in my garage, stacked neatly to the side, ready for use when I need them. Most of my existing coolers are basic in functionality. They are lightweight and keep items cold enough to make them sufficient when the need arises. None of them is really anything special, and this is why I jumped at the chance to get a Pelican Elite Cooler. I got the 50 quart size, since it seemed like the right volume for my needs.
Examining this cooler reveals a few obvious differences that set it apart from others. The first thing I noticed is the weight. The Pelican Elite Cooler is definitely heavier than the average cooler and when it is filled with cans, bottles, food, and ice, it will likely take two people to carry it safely and comfortably from place to place. The added weight, however, is not of concern to me, as it is expected for a quality cooler. Yes, my other coolers are lighter, but they are also quite flimsy and not really designed to last. This Pelican cooler reminds me of other quality coolers such as Orca and Yeti, https://www.globosurfer.com/orca-vs-yeti-cooler/ both of which are designed by companies that manufacture coolers with quality in mind.
Other features that I noticed immediately include the latched closure and the excellent drainage. The latched closure is far superior to that of other coolers because it keeps everything inside the cooler safe and secure. Most other coolers are pressed shut and have nothing to keep them closed. If they tip, well, there is a good chance everything inside will come spilling out. There is no such issue with the Pelican Elite Cooler. The heavy latches mean the cooler remains shut until you chose to open it.
The built in drainage offered by the Pelican Elite Cooler is another standout, and it is nothing short of excellent! Look at the top of the cooler and you will see four round beverage holders, each with its own drain. Other coolers have built in beverage holders, but there is no drain. That means you have to periodically remove your cup, can, or bottle and tip the top in order to drain any water that collects in the cup. This is cool, but what I like and appreciate even more is the inside drain. It is superior to that of other coolers because it is situated below the floor of the cooler. That means you can drain the water completely without having to tilt the cooler. When I first saw this, my immediate reaction was “why haven’t other manufacturers thought of doing this!” It makes good sense, and yet almost every cooler on the market has the drain elevated above the bottom of the cooler, requiring that you lift and tilt the cooler to properly drain the water.
Another feature the Pelican Elite Cooler offers that I didn’t notice immediately but grew to appreciate is the non- skid feet. With my other coolers, there is nothing on the bottom of them to hold them in place. If they are situated on a smooth surface, they can easily get knocked around with little effort. The Pelican Elite Cooler is different. It hugs whatever surface it is placed on and doesn’t slide. Even if I place this cooler on an otherwise slick surface, like the tiles on my back porch, it still holds its own. Again, this is a cool added feature and one that other cooler manufacturers should offer.
All of these extra features are great, but what matters the most with any cooler is its ability to keep things cold and, once again, the Pelican Elite Cooler earns high marks. I have found that this cooler is superior at temperature control and it easily outlasts my other coolers. I have filled it with ice and canned beverages and taken it to the beach and, even after a total time of seven or more hours, there is still plenty of ice present in the cooler and only a small amount of water, even with regular opening and closing of the lid.
The Coolest
Pelican Elite Cooler is a cooler for the serious Outdoor and entertainment enthusiast. The added features and advanced functionality set this cooler in a class by itself and its heavy duty, corrosion resistant design means it will last for a good, long time. Whether you take it on a fishing expedition, to a tailgate party, or on a family outing to the beach, Pelican Elite Cooler will keep your food and beverages cold and ready for enjoyment.
I own several coolers and each of them has its use, but the Pelican Elite Cooler easily outranks them all. It’s a highly useful means to consistently cold food and beverages when you’re on the go and it earns a high recommendation from those of us at Great Beer Now. Looks like a much better value than the Yeti cooler I was looking at. Similar in every way except a much more attractive price!
Bryan says
Yes, the price, which is around $150 to $180, sounds high at first but it’s lower than that of other quality coolers.
Denise Gardiner says
It looks and sounds like a great cooler for campers, and people who enjoy the great outdoors and other activities. so you can have that COLD beer when you want it! Through the years we have bought different brands of coolers, for short- term, but you had to keep adding ice within a few hours!
Bryan says
Yes, the ice retention is better and the design has so many extras. My favorite is the interior drain. It empties all of the liquid without the need to tilt the cooler.

That is one hard core cooler. That construction is perfect for both keeping everything cold and ensuring it survives a fall off of a building. I want it.

I like your passion for finding the right cooler. I have a most excellent Pelican case (like noticeably excellent) for my memory card storage. I wonder if it is the same company.

A good cooler is convenient to have. It’s great when you have celebrations at home. We also use it for transporting fresh food to our rented unit.
