Kona Brewing Company continues its year-long celebration of giving back with the August release of Kai Golden Ale, a refreshing and golden-hued craft brew that benefits the Surfrider Foundation, Maui Chapter, a non-profit that works to protect and preserve the world’s oceans, waves and beaches.
Kai Golden Ale is the third small batch beer in the Makana Series, Kona Brewing’s campaign to say mahalo to the people of Hawaii for their support over the last 21 years. A portion of the proceeds from each limited edition beer in the series – which was inspired by Hawaii’s natural elements – goes to one of four Hawaii-based non-profit organizations that dedicate themselves to restoring and preserving Hawaii’s natural resources.
Hawaii’s life giving waters were the inspiration for Kai Golden Ale (4% ABV). In fact, the water used to make the special brew comes from 3,000 feet below the Kona coast off the Big Island. The desalinated seawater is full of minerals that give the ale a light, crisp finish – making it deeply refreshing and the perfect end to a day spent riding the waves.
First Taste of Kai
Craft beer fans can get the first taste of Kai Golden Ale at Honolulu Museum of Art’s ARTafterDARK: Swell from 6-9 pm this Friday. Kona Brewing is the presenting sponsor of the event featuring the newest wave of local art at Artists of Hawai‘i 2015, Indie rockers The Bougies and KTUH DJ TheNativeGirl. Tickets are $25 or free for museum members.

Launch Party on Maui
Kai Golden Ale makes its official debut on August 8 at Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapu. The launch party features The Green, Gomega and Pi’ilani Arias and Dani Girl. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. General admission concert tickets are $21. For ticket locations, visit the Kona Brewing website. For every pint of beer sold, $1 will be donated to the Maui Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
Kai Golden Ale will be available for on draft-only for approximately three months, or until supply runs out, at about 30 bars, restaurants, and both Kona Brewing pubs in Honolulu and Kona beginning August 8. Due to limited supply, the series will not be available at the growler station or for dock sales at the Kona brewery or Koko Marina pub. A list of locations selling Kai Golden Ale can be found using the Find Beer tab on the Kona Brewing website: www.konabrewingco.com/find-beer/ .
About Kona Brewing
Kona Brewing Company was started in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island in the spring of 1994 by father and son team Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa, who had a dream to create fresh, local island brews made with spirit, passion and quality. Today, Kona is Hawaii’s largest and favorite craft brewery, known for top-selling flagship beers Longboard Island Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale and award-winning innovative small-batch beers available across the Islands. The Hawaii born and Hawaii-based craft brewery prides itself on brewing the freshest beer of exceptional quality, closest to market. This helps to minimize its carbon footprint by reducing shipping of raw materials, finished beer and packaging materials.
Kona Brewing has become one of the top craft beer brands in the world, while remaining steadfastly committed to its home market through a strong focus on innovation, sustainability and community outreach. In 2014, the company achieved a milestone in its home state, selling more than 1 million cases in the Islands for the first time in its history. As announced in early 2015, Kona Brewing is investing approximately $15 million to build a new state-of-the-art brewery in Hawaii capable of producing 100,000 barrels (BBLs) per year. The new brewery will be up and running by early 2017.
