Are you a fan of craft beer and comedy? Everything is enhanced with fine brew and good comedy is certainly no exception to the rule. And one event that brings together these two essential elements of a good time is the Off Centered Film Fest, a three day celebration of craft beer and cinema, sponsored by Alamo Drafthouse and Dogfish Head Brewery.
Off Centered Film Fest is now in its ninth year and for the past eight seasons, the event has been the exclusive domain of Alamo Drafthouse’s home base in Austin, Texas. This year, the fest has expanded to two other Texas cities, bringing the fun of comedy spoofs, entertainment, and Dogfish Head beer to a wider range of Texans. The three host cities are:
Houston, Friday, May 13, 2016– The featured film of the evening will be Mel Gibson’s Braveheart, edited down to about half its original length with comedy additions courtesy of Master Pancake. The movie begins at 7 p.m. at the Mason Road Alamo location, but guests are encouraged to arrive early and grab a glass or two of Dogfish Head beer before the film starts to roll.
Austin, Saturday, May 14, 2016– Austin residents get treated to a double feature on this leg of the festival. Between 12 pm and 3 pm, craft beer fans are invited to Ye Olde VIP Boat Party, held at Lady Bird Lake. Dogfish Head and Alamo Drafthouse personnel will be present and plenty of beer and food will be served. Then, the action continues at the Alamo Drafthouse cinema on Lamar Blvd. at 7 p.m. for a viewing of Time Bandits. Guests get to not only enjoy the film, but also partake in a five course food and beer feast presented by Alamo chef Trish Eichelberger.
Dallas, Sunday, May 15, 2016– Last but not least, the Off Centered Film Fest heads to Dallas for a happy hour and book signing at the South Lamar Ave. Alamo Drafthouse with Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Once the clock strikes seven, it’s into the cinema we go for an audience interactive, quote along showing of the classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Sam Calagione will be present at all three events, knocking back a pint or two and talking with guests about craft beer, movies, politics, and anything else that comes to mind. I have met Sam in the past and he is very laid back and open to most any conversation on any topic. Guests can feel at ease and chat about whatever comes to mind while mingling with the crowd and meeting new friends.
Dogfish Head Beer is the self- proclaimed “Off Centered Beer for Off Centered People” and the Off Centered Film Fest follows in these footsteps, with off- centered entertainment that aligns perfectly with a Dogfish Head Bitches Brew or Romantic Chemistry IPA. It’s fun, its entertaining, and it’s most assuredly off centered so head to one of the three Off Centered Film Fest locations and let your weird side shine, courtesy of Alamo Drafthouse and Dogfish Head beer.
