Texas own Lone Star Beer has announced a new addition to its malt beverage lineup. The new brew is called Rio Jade (pronounced Ree-Oh Hah-Day), a Mexican style lager that will be distributed throughout Texas beginning in late April and continuing through the end of summer.
Rio Jade is, believe it or not, Lone Star’s first seasonal beer. The beer’s name translates into River Jade and it is inspired by Texas’ diverse lands and waterways. The blue color on the cans and bottles is intended to invoke images of the waters of Texas and Mexico. The beer itself is a crisp, clean, Mexican lager locally brewed in the Texas Hill Country and it boasts a flavor profile that features tastes of flaked maize and spicy floral and citrus notes.
Lone Star brand director Emily Hoyle says Rio Jade is brewed with the spirit of coming together in mind.
“We’re excited to launch the Rio Jade Mexican Style Lager as it gives us a chance to honor our heritage, but also celebrate the Texas of today,” said Hoyle. “The beer perfectly represents what we value at Lone Star – connecting to the land and people of Texas, providing new and refreshing ways to enjoy our great state, and above all else, making delicious tasting beer for Texans everywhere.”
Lone Star Rio Jade’s release is part of another, equally important initiative that is befitting of the times. As we are all aware, the COVID-19 crisis has the nation in its grip and the pandemic has led to widespread business closures. It has hit the food and beverage industries particularly hard and in a show of support, Lone Star has launched Keep The Lights on Y’all. Partnering with Texas- focused apparel and gift maker Texas Humor, Lone Star has created a special T-shirt to help raise funds for the food and beverage community. All profits from the sale of this shirt will go directly to Southern Smoke, a Texas nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that supports the food and beverage community and its suppliers.
Lone Star Brand Manager Daniel Crawford is thrilled to help support the food and beverage service industry through the Texas Humor partnership.
“The independent service industry members affected by this crisis are near and dear to our hearts,” said Crawford. “They are a huge pillar of our community and the backbone of our brand. They spend their days providing amazing hospitality to us, and we wanted to share that back during these wild times. We are incredibly grateful for Texas Humors’ support in this and excited to share this message to support such a great cause.”
Those who are interested in supporting the cause and getting their hands on one of these cool t-shirts can log on to txhumor.com. The shirts sell for $25 each. Rio Jade will be distributed throughout the state in six packs, sold at a suggested retail price of $7.99. To find where Rio Jade is sold near you, access the Lone Star beer finder or schedule a beer delivery using Drizly. In keeping with the current social distancing recommendations, Lone Star encourages everyone to enjoy this and other Lone Star beers at home, at least for now.

I love drinking beer. Sometimes, I prefer it over wine. Whenever I have my friends come over to our house, I’d definitely order pizza and a few beer cans. I like my beer light with a hint of flavor. My favorite is apple. This one is interesting. I love the blue label. I like the color.

Apple flavors are not common in regular beer, but there are some out there. I can think of a few golden ales that have an underlying apple flavor. Otherwise, to get apple, you have to turn to ciders, as you know.
