Perrin Brewing, a Comstock, Michigan company located just north of downtown Grand Rapids, is expanding westward thanks in large part to a partnership formed with Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery.
Perrin Brewing has been on the rise for many years as craft beer fans sought out head brewer John Stewart’s malt beverage masterpieces. At one time, Perrin beer was available only at its Comstock brewpub, but realizing the strong demand for the product, Perrin launched its beer to restaurants and taverns throughout the state. A partnership was then formed with Oskar Blues and Perrin began packaging in cans for the first time.
Now, Perrin Brewing is expanding distribution outside of the state of Michigan and the first state to receive Perrin draft and canned beers will be none other than Colorado. The brewery is releasing its core brands, including 98 Problems IPA, No Problems “A Session IPA”, and Perrin Black Ale. Perrin Brewing has a seasonal Grapefruit IPA that will also make its way west and it will be followed by another seasonal release, Blackberry IPA, later in the summer. These beers will be available in retail outlets across the state and also in Oskar Blues own taprooms and eateries.
Perrin Brewing president Keith Klopcic can’t wait to transport his beers to the Rocky Mountain State.
“Through our collaboration with Oskar Blues Brewery we’ve felt a natural extension of our hometown passion for craft beer. We’ve been blown away with the Colorado craft beer scene and we’re excited to bring Perrin’s commitment to quality to the home of craft beer in-a-can.” said Klopcic.
To celebrate the launch of Perrin Brewing in Colorado, several events are planned next week. Here is a recap of scheduled events:

Here are some quick facts and tasting notes for each Perrin beer:
Perrin Black ABV 5.8% IBU 25: A light bodied, crisp and flavorful dark ale with hints of semi-sweet chocolate and soft nuances of fresh coffee. This beer is very counterintuitive in the way that it pours dark as night but tastes like a lighter beer encompassing a range of full flavors.
98 Problems IPA ABV 6.5% IBU 60: Our IPA accomplishes the nearly impossible feat of balancing a sweet malty backbone along with a blend of west coast hops, which creates a crisp bitterness and imparts massive floral and citrus aromas. This is how an IPA should taste!
No Problems “A Session IPA” ABV 4.5% IBU 45: Weaved carefully under the hop bitterness lies a light, semi-sweet malt body, that finishes in a crisp N’ clean fashion. Features aromatics of fresh citrus fruits, ripened melon and a distinctive floral bouquet.
Grapefruit IPA ABV 5% IBU 35: With aromas of citrus and tropical fruits, a delicate grapefruit tartness and a sweet malty backbone ending in a clean finish; This IPA is the first of its kind.
Perrin and Oskar Blues formed a partnership in 2014. The relationship started off with a collaboration beer, brewed at the Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont, CO. The success of this collaboration beer led to a formal business partnership between the two companies. Colorado residents can now enjoy the fruits of this special arrangement now that Perrin Brewing is officially in their home state. Cheers!
